this something i have never understood how LSU was an 8 seed. That team was pretty damn good and then got matched up with UNC in the 2nd round. We were down one with 4 minutes left and Ty Lawson leads UNC on a 20-7 run.

Butler as a 9 seed was an abomination as well.

The SEC really fricked us over with a weak RPI.
That LSU team was atleast a sweet 16 and could have been an elite-8 team. Only team in the tournament that had a lead over eventual champ UNC in the 2nd half.

That was the year the selection committee chair said during his selection show interview that Tennessee had a great year and was the outright SEC champion. LSU ran away with the conference by 3 games and Miss St won the tournament.

yeah, LSU got fricked royally. Not only were they an 8 seed but were fated to play the strongest 9 seed and the strongest 1 seed.

I will never forget going to Greensboro and having the entire Duke contingent there raucously supporting us in that game.

I was so pissed when I found out we were an 8 seed. Although we did put up a bigger fight against UNC than any other team did. Still cant believe we lost that game. We had them. Lawson went off though towards the end

I remember the UNC boards also said we were no 8 seed after we played them. They felt like they got screwed too having to play us in the 2nd round.

It's what I hate about college basketball. If I remember correctly, Tennessee beat one of the #1 teams in late November, which the selection obviously thinks is more important than what you do in January and February in conference. It's part of their agenda to make teams play more TV-friendly games in November and December and rewarding them for it.
EDIT: Had the wrong year for Tennessee. It was 10-11. They beat Pitt and Villanova the first two weeks of the season but went 4-7 the last month of the season and lost by 30 in the first game of the tournament.

The SEC was so weak it really hurt us come selection time. Even though our resume said 6-7 seed, we got an 8 and against the best 1 and Butler team who also got the shaft seeding wise.

2006: won SEC conference, lost semifinal game of conference tournament, ranked 19th in final AP poll, 18th in final Coaches poll. RPI 13
result=4 seed
2009: won SEC conference, lost semifinal game of conference tournament, ranked 20th in final AP poll, 16th in final Coaches poll. RPI 34
result=8 seed
so basically our non-conference schedule was extremely important to our seeding in 2006 and detrimental to our seeding in 2009. In 2006, LSU played 3 road non-conference games against ranked teams (beating WVU and losing on the final possession to tOSU and UCONN). In 2009, LSU played 1 home non-conference game against a ranked team (lost to Xavier).
The SEC was dreadful both years. Florida was the only ranked conference team LSU played in 2006 while LSU was the only ranked team in the SEC in 2009.
Key lesson: non-conference is extremely important

That '09 UNC was STACKED...LSU only team that pushed them in tourney, UNC bulldozed everyone else

I remember 2009 like it was yesterday. Everyone complained about the 8th seed. It was definately a issue.

yeah, Marcus was hot for a good chunk of the second half. When he was hot, LSU could beat just about anyone. Hell just look at the 2008 team in Maui how he single-handedly kept those games close.
