One of my dad's childhood friends worked for a while for the Las Vegas visitor's bureau. He got to take all kinds of neat pictures and here are two from 1971--promo shots for Scenic Airways back before the Grand Canyon's airspace was so heavily regulated.

The Lizzie Borden crime scene photos always freaked me out, especially the dad on the couch. (It would be easier for you to google it than me figure out how to link them).

In 1887, using a series of trip wires, Eadweard Muybridge created the first high speed photo series which can be run together to give the effect of motion pictures. It helped solve the myth of whether horses ever have all four legs off the ground at the same time.
