I don't think they knew it was a hoax, but they DEFINITELY helped advance the story to get Te'o sympathy and Heisman votes. That's why they have to back Te'o all the way. They have just as much a stake in this as he does.

Oh, well he'd probably go into convulsions if anything ever happened to you. Based on how upset he was after a fake person died.

I know Manti a little from two classes I had with him (first name basis, but not well enough to call him a friend), but talking to people on campus that knew him better/friends of mine on the team, they say he made his way around with the ladies. And it's not a secret on campus that he didn't exactly engage in sobriety 100 percent of the time, a big Mormon no-no.

Manti's a phony to the extent that his portrayal as a devout Mormon (emphasis on "devout") is just not true (I'd say he's more "spiritual" than "religious"), but he's not evil. He also puts on a quiet, humble, reserved, private front to the media, but he was always very outgoing and loud in class settings, and even when you watch him play, he does a lot of things for attention/to get the crowd involved. He still does a lot of good things and helps a lot of people, but his real personality is different than he lets on.

THis pretty much blows the naive, victim out of the water IMO. Sounds like he is in on it as you go on to say, but to what extent who knows at this point.

I really think he was fooled at first, but he figured out he was being trolled. The big question is whether or not he found out before or after the supposed death. However it played out, he looks like a dbag/liar. That question just determines the degree of a dbag/liar he is.

This doesn't really support his case, fyi.

False. If that was the case, they could easily just say he lied to them and apologize, while throwing him under the bus. Really no damage done at all. But after Swarbrick's PC yesterday, there's no turning back for the university now.

Everything about Notre Dame is delusional. Still can't fathom why anyone wants to go to school there other than to please their catholic parents.

So he was on the phone for hours with who exactly??

Likely a lie or embellishment he had after he went down the whole gf dying story. He was embarrassed that he fell for the catfish and he didn't want to admit what happened.

So when ND player at USC, he didn't think to maybe visit her grave or something?

Some of the public will believe anything

What was all that "casket closed at 9 AM" stuff?

I have been around many funerals, and never has anybody said beforehand that the casket will be closed at "X" time.

It's been reported by NBC that Notre Dame is no longer going to be the public relations for Manti since he is no longer part of the university.

Manti is in Miami with a lawyer/agent and has new representation.

More problems for Te'o and Notre Dame:

quote:

Dan Tudesco, a 2006 graduate who now works in public relations in New York, set up an online account at fundraising website indiegogo.com on Jan. 9 to solicit $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Inc. The initial pitch said donations would go to the society in memory of Lennay Kekua, who reportedly died last fall, and in honor of Te'o, "two individuals who have been an inspiration to us through an iconic season."

Notre Dame took notice of Tudesco's tweets about the fund drive and sent a university videographer to shoot an interview with him. The video was posted on the Notre Dame athletics YouTube channel Tuesday.

LINK

So this was AFTER the BCSNCG when ND and Te'o clearly knew the story was fake and they let this fundraising go on and even videoed the guy and posted it? Knowing the death was a hoax?

If he can make his way around with the ladies in real life, then why would he get so caught up on an online girlfriend who won't even do a video chat with him or meet up with him while he's playing at her school?

He talked about it at a BCSCG press conference on Jan. 3. There is video out there somewhere.

He was asked about her at the 12:40 mark.

No. Not false. Notre Dame actively promoted this story. If they were to come out and say Mantai Te'o concocted this scheme to gain sympathy and Heisman buzz, the Notre Dame athletic department's credibility and reputation would definitely take an enormous hit.

There was no grave to visit and when they played USC he knew that.

Like I said, I really think he was trolled initially. At some point he found out.

Was it before or after this girl supposedly died is the big question.

If he found out before then obviously he is a huge douchebag and comes off way worse.

If he found out after this girl "died" then he still looks bad. However, he could have been incredibly embarrassed by the whole thing. He already has this story out there that he lost his girlfriend in the main stream media and he doesn't want to take it back to avoid the humiliation. I know he says he met this girl at times, but he may have also been embarrassed he was in a relationship with a chick he never met so he says they met in Palo Alto and Hawaii.

His story that he found out while making the rounds at awards shows is 100% false. ND also most definitely found out about this yesterday.

Definitely evasive. Didn't mention her.
