Gotcha. I'm in south Louisiana about 2.5 hrs from Alexandria looking for a deer lease/membership for next year and have been trying to find stuff within a 2-3 hr drive

damn right. I can't find a decent lease within an hour of my house due to every swinging dick with money from New Orleans to Lake Charles scooping up everything.

this is a problem for some folks, but its also because of some people just shooting everything.

people are willing to spend more to keep out people once they find a good property and the right group of guys. we have had that issue. we are 10 guys and almost all family. each time we let in a new person, things get fricked up. we are now willing to shell out more money to ensure things run smoothly.

a lot of people get into a property and just want to start blasting everything they see because they arent used to seeing deer. that's why people try to keep it exclusive.

more members=more potential problems.

About over the past 15 years its gotten rediculous around here. A lot of the property that I see under 200 acres is leased by someone using it as a tax write off for their company. I was leasing 100 acres @ $8 an acre years ago and a guy came in and offered $15. The land wasn't worth 15/ac but it was a "buisness" expense for him. Or you get the doctors, lawyers, oil folks from S.La with more money than sense that can throw big dollars to locals that use to be happy with just getting enough to cover property taxes and an ice chest full of meat for their land.

Its the name of the game now and I can't blame the rich, or the land owners. Just sucks for guys like me that grew up here and work here but get pushed out when it comes to hunting.

This seems like a good place to ask this question as I don't really want to start a new thread:

Lease vs. Hunting Club. I want to either get a lease or join a club next year, what is everyone's experience with both and opinions? I live in south Alabama if it matters, there doesn't appear to be a major shortage of lease choices (yet)

I hear ya. Its just like anything else. supply and demand. limited amount of quality land drives up demand and price. , but

leasing the land yourself seems like the better but more expensive option. if you can swing it, do it.

I can assure you their are plenty of horror stories on this board about different clubs. you wont ever get everyone on the same page about how things are run and what to shoot. lots of agruing, egos, etc..

good luck

Whatever happened to the Outdoor Board lease, last year a few people tried to get together to throw a lease together.

I'm guessing it didn't work out but it was an interesting venture.

Now that our ranch is sold I am totally giving up on deer hunting unless I get invited someplace. I will wait for a couple of years until I can buy my own land and manage it the way I want to. Its sucks but getting into a place that has good management is tough and being in one that doesn't will do nothing but aggravate me.

Coffeeville is where we be, all family looking to add a couple take the price down a bit. 1200 acres 7 of us now one getting out wanna add one on top of replacement. Deer and turkey 6 or better we are kid friendly turns some people off. Turkeys everywhere no one turkey hunts though. Gonna try it this year if some one who knows what they are doing will go with me.

For that price you should be able to find a great lease in the Texas hill country. 3-4 guns per 1000 acres is the norm, tons of deer and turkey. It's a longer drive but many leases have camp houses or hookups. I did that a few years ago and it's been good. Kids love to go because we see deer all the time. I got in with a good group. We have killed 8-10 deer this year between 125-140 inches on 3000 acres. Next few years should get better. Something to think about.

I pay 2300 and drive 6 hrs for the lease we have. Just to have my kids watch deer walk by all day because its 8 pt or better, and 16 inch min spread. The limits would be great if all the land around us wasnt if its brown its down !!!! Needless to say im on the hunt for a lease for year in bamaland..
