Where do I stop for a great lunch? We'd really like BBQ. Maybe Mexican if there is a "MUST GO".
Preferably in Texas as we'll be leaving around 1 or 2 pm.

Eat a light lunch around 12 and then when you go through Lake Charles stop at El Tapatio on Hwy 14. Best Mexican food in town and its dirt cheap.
No good BBQ joints in LC

Gator Junction BBQ in Wallisville, TX. Also pick up some Boudin balls from Billy's at exit 97 in LA.

Had planned on that one already

Any that have good reviews in the greater Houston area. Seriously, El Tapatio isn't worth a stop IMO. If you're leaving Houston at 1 or 2, you would be having a 3:30-4:00 lunch that isn't worth waiting for after leaving one of the best cities in the country for Mexican.
Billy's boudin balls are a must.

Why the frick would you leave houston and stop for mexican food in LA? Not to be a dick, but that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Eat mexican before u leave or eat some cajun/creole in LA.

The Rice Palace in Crawley has some good gumbo.

eat mexican in Houston before you leave. All the good bbq is west of houston.
Just stop at places in LA and get boudin, sausage, gumbo, etc..
I've made the drive 100 times, dont stray from the formula.

Tell me the good Mexican places in Houston because in a year and a half of living there I've found a taco truck and maybe two restaurants amongst literally an uncountable amount of Maggie Ritas and other garbage texmex.
