How's the voodoo hold up?
It’s held up fine but it’s not like it gets used every day. Probably once every couple of months to the range then several times during hunting season, and it’s 6-7 years old. But the materials are thick and the stitching is solid. Sometimes you can just pick something up and inspect it and you know it’s cheap crap or you can tell it’s decent. I have LBT, Eagle/Camelbak and Tactical Tailor stuff and the Voodoo is comparable as far as construction. I don’t know about the brand you’re looking at, but I suspect they’re all produced in one of two factories.

I've had a voodoo for 10 years and it still looks brand new. I only use it occasionally but it's pretty heavy duty and very well made. Buy with confidence.

To me, spending 800-1000 more for a gun is a no-brainer if it is truly the best. If best equals less than 1% of those points that matter to me then maybe that 800-1000 would be better spent elsewhere.
Anyways, thanks OB brethren for the help!
Doesn't the SR-15 start around $2500?

2,500-2,700 depending on if I go the pistol route.

Buy a BCM, put in a Geissele 2 stage trigger, and be done with it.

This. I would also recommend a SOLOGW, Daniel defense, or JP. Any of those 4 are really good brands that just plain run.

If you're uncomfortable with putting in a traditional style trigger, then a gunsmith will do it for you all day long.

Going on the cheap end, has anyone dealt with Karri's Guns?
I just want a cheap, basic functional lower, to slap my BCA 7.62x39 upper onto.
Karri's has a complete lower assembled for $179, stripped lower with parts kit (same exact thing, but not put together) for $159. They say the lower is 7075 forged billet, nothing is ambi, just very basic. Shipping is free if over $150, so it's that plus transfer fee.
I already know it's not a high end piece, and I also know it's not a pistol lower (I wanted a rifle for this).
Combined with the upper, this makes it a $500 gun. I've got the upper running great with cheap steel, I want a cheap blaster.
My question/concern is- is Karri's ok for entry level? I would assume the basic trigger would do fine for this, as the lower I have ran it on was a stock Radical. With the enhanced firing pin ($11), it has been great.
Is this a decent price, is it worth it to get everything assembled for the extra $20?
Thanks

I have to run it a lot more than I have but I have the Triggertech AR adaptable in a new rifle of mine. The trigger feel is impeccable. It’s better than my Geissele

gonna start my first build soon and contemplating going with the G2S trigger right from the start. I've shot my buddy's and really liked it.
My question is how is the stock trigger that comes on PSA lowers/kits?

It's nothing special. It's a run of the mill milspec 6-ish lb, standard military, kind of gritty, heavy trigger. The parts are good, but it just doesn't have the snap you want from a really good trigger.
Hiperfire actually makes a really really good duty trigger for about $90. Its smooth, single action and has a much lighter, cleaner break than any standard mil-spec trigger. I think it's called the EDT trigger. It's about 4.5 lbs and has a really good, thick trigger face.
For that same money, you could buy a LaRue, but as stated before, those things are backordered out the wazzu.

That might be my best option. I’ll have time to get sick of the mil spec trigger before this one arrives and it will feel like money well spent

It’s probably the best bang for the buck option. The best option is a Geissele SDC or SDC-E depending on the use. I have some Larue stuff and the trigger is damn good for the price, but the guy is an absolute dick and the Geissele family seems to be a class act.

Y’all have any suggestions or recs for tool kits with the essentials for building or working on ARs?
Posted on 5/1/21 at 11:02 am to LoneStarTiger
I found it was just better to piece what you need together. The tools will be higher quality.
Magpul wrench LINK
Geissele reaction rod LINK
Mag well block LINK
Gunsmith hammer LINK
Set of starter and roll pin punches LINK
Bench vice
If needed, barrel nut wrench for your desired handguard
That would cover most bases. And there are a ton of other tools to make life easier, like a trigger guard tool to reduce the risk of breaking off a critical piece of the lower receiver and making it useless. LINK

It depends on whether you want to build an AR or assemble an AR.
Assemble: you buy an upper already assembled and do the rest yourself. If you have regular hand tools all you need to add is a drift pin/punch set and a $25 armorer’s wrench for the buffer tube nut.
Build: this involves installing your own barrel. In addition to the above you’ll need a vice, a receiver block of some sort and a torque wrench.
You can spend as much as you want but you don’t have to if you don’t want to. The only AR specific tools I bought were a Magpul Bev block (maybe $50?) and a $25 armorer’s wrench from Midway. I can build one from scratch with those and standard tools.

Primary Arms has stripped Aero Precision M4-style uppers in stock right now for $63.

Yeah, I should say assembly. The upper is complete, just assembling the lower. Bought a wrench, vice block, and punch set. After watching a few videos this should be simple enough.
