So I have a gun that I was building... it was supposed to be finished on 8/13/16... The day my house flooded. I had planned to meet up with GT23 where I would finish the lower (upper was done, built by me) and he would get started on his new build. But like many others, we flooded. Got 4 feet. No need to get into all that BS...
Anyway, I finally got back to a place where I could finish this. The upper was fine as was the lower and the scope, but the trigger and lower parts were goners. So here she is:
Blacked-out M16A4 clone... 20" barrel, Geissele 2-stage trigger, upper and lower are Anderson. 5x Prism Scope from Primary Arms...

Anyone know the best AR gunsmith in Baton Rouge? I "built" my first AR (bought all the pieces and paid a gunsmith to put it together). It's not a huge thing but when I look down the rail I notice my gasblock doesn't sit perfectly straight. This causes the BCG to knock the gas tube back to center when the bolt cycles. Was wondering if I could find a local, reputable person to straighten it.

All those are top of the line things. The only bad thing about them is the $$$$

I don't know about "best," but contact Sulzer Firearms and see if he can help you. What I have read here on the OB is Sulzer makes quality ARs. His shop is in Industriplex.
Beau at Bowie Outfitters on Perkins is another person who is well regarded.
I'm sure there are others but I don't recall them.
Propagandalf is Sulzer's alias here on the OB.
ETA: quote & Beau at Bowie Outfitters (thanks for the correction Carson)

Come see me, Beau, or Ruffin at Bowie Outfitters, or Conrad at Sulzer Firearms.
Is the block pinned or set screwed with dimple?
Posted on 3/19/17 at 3:38 pm to Carson123987
Both. It's got a pin hammered into the bottom and then two set screws. I may come in this week!

Without seeing it, it sounds like you are saying the person who assembled the upper pinned the gasblock on crooked? It can be fixed, but you're going to need a new gas block and if you want it pinned it will need to be drilled in front or behind of the current crooked hole. If you don't care about aesthetics you can mash out the pin, straighten the block and just use the set screws to secure it, or you can get it re-pinned and just have a hole in your gas block. Sounds like your guy tried to freehand it instead of using a proper jig. Anyway, we don't do gunsmithing, per se, but we do fix fudged up AR15s and builds on the reg.

I guess the situation is somewhere between the gunsmith I went to using the TSAR (that seems about right) method, and me just being a little particular. If I get time this week I'll bring it in and we can see what we're lookin at and what's doable. At Blake's they sell and inexpensive adjustable block that I've been wanting to buy so maybe it's a good time to throw that on there instead.

That was one of the things about this process that kinda ticked me off. We bought the can and trust from a known dealer in New Orleans. Unknown to us is that he didn't have any cans in stock at the time and did not send a serial number to the ATF until three months later. So we actualy got approved by the atf a year to the week that we bought the can but it was about 9months approval time on the atfs end.

Here's a little product review for you gents. Finally got to hit the range to test out my Govnah gas block on my 5.56. This is my first adjustable gas block of any kind, as I've tried to stay away from them in the past. I'm of the philosophy that the simpler something is, the less chance you have of something breaking or going wrong. With that being said, the gas to the face when shooting my 5.56 SBR suppressed was pretty brutal.
These things are pricey, but I liked the concept of its design. No screws, it's simply a plate you slide left or right that has a different size gas port on each side, one for suppressed and one for not. Switching between the 2 is very accessible and easily done.
Performance wise, it was pretty amazing. The rifle runs smooth as butter, there's no gas to the face, and felt recoil is much less. It was like shooting a different rifle all together. I did have 2 failure to feeds out of 300 rounds, but both were the very last round coming out of a drum mag (Magpul D60).
