Pelicans is fine. Below is a list of bird names in professional sports. The only name I like better than Pelicans is Eagles. Penguins is really horrible.

If you like Ravens, Eagles, Falcons, Cardinals, and, of course, Seahawks, the NFL is the place for you. NHL Penguins and Mighty Ducks, MLB Blue Jays, Orioles, and Cardinals, and NBA Hawks.

Lol if this is a serious question.

You want your fans to like the name, simple as that.

Let the fans have a say in naming their team.

There is clearly no moral imperative should going on here. So maybe he'll benefit from it? Maybe.

Let's talk about the most recent NBA poll: The Bullets renaming.

The had 5 choices: Wizards, Sea Dogs, Dragons, Stallions, and Express.

Now. You like that poll?

Has there even been any more mention of the colors since Gayle let that slip? I know the NBA denied.

I've seen nothing else.

They denied it in the it's not official sense. They confirmed it was the preference.

Done the way they've been doing it yes, I'm clearly not suggesting that. Also the 3 together don't mix but almost any mix of two does.

Polls give you that better than other means?

And fans won't just like the team? The Hornets-brand haters still post here (alot) after all these years. Pelicans-brand haters will behave otherly?

People en masse are retards.

This is Benson's team. He should name it what he wants. If you don't like it you can voice that with your wallet.

As others have said, you have more ownership of the team, you're more invested. Why not try to generate goodwill with your rebrand? The entire point of the rebrand is more fan support so do it right..

But there is no name that sticks out.

No matter what name they choose. Some people will love. Some people will hate. Just how it goes

Again, I think Benson's ego is far and away the big issue here. He wants HIS team, not Shinn's.

I'm totally on board with Pelicans. But I sure do wish it was Brass.

So because Washington had shitty names to pick from, you think Benson will too and therefore we shouldn't even do it? Benson have people that can use the internet, even if he can't. They can find 3 names that are being most talked about by the fans, and put them in a poll

Sigh. Pelicans IS a name that represents the city, state and region. Even the colors do. So...

You're ignoring the entire sequence that led to that comment and taking it out of context.

That doesn't mean all poll are bad. But it does not mean you'll get the poll you're looking for.

And the point of a rebrand is not just to build fan interest in the moment, but it's about business long-term. If they felt Hornets was permanently `tainted' on some level, then that would start the conversation. It costs millions to do rebrand. Likely over $10m when brand equity is factored in. This is not a light decision.

The whims of a billionaire likely fit in as well, perhaps heavily.

Fans, in the end, will accept their team.
