Sugar picks Texas A&M over LSU
no chance and not because of LSU either. Lets just say the Cotton is willing to do what ever it takes to have A&M play Texas.

LSu doesn't want the cotton. Just played there 2 years ago and opened last season there and will open next season there. For this same reason LSU will not be the cottons first choice either. Not to mention the biggest reason. The cotton wants the powder keg that A&M vs Texas would be.
I would think that if LSU doesnt get a BCS bowl bid then they would want to play in the Cotton Bowl. Playing in TX is great for our recruiting and this upcoming year is a huge year for prospects we have a good shot of getting from there. Hell Id love to see us play one game a year in TX if at all possible.

Is Florida not eligible for a bowl game this year?
I think Florida will play OU in Sugar. Again, hope I'm wrong.

Not sure what you mean by this?
My point is what you said here:

anything to do with making or not making the Sugar bowl two seasons ago.
Going to the Sugar ultimately didn't matter. For either of them. There are much more important things (like the ones you pointed out) that cause programs to rise and fall.

Hate to break it to you guys, but Bama is going to beat UGA soundly.
That match up favors them......
Really? I thought the exact opposite.

Why the hell would the Fiesta take a 3 loss Standford team based on the logic that they lose to UCLA?
Posted on 11/19/12 at 9:30 am to CajunCaimen
Are LSU fans going to be all that excited about the sugar bowl again? Will OU fans outnumber them like Bama fans did on 1/9? I ask because it doesn't thrill me for some reason. I know it's crazy because I should be thrilled about us potentially sneaking into a BCS bowl but I guess I had my hopes set on Fiesta or even the Rose.

The Cotton takes two Texas teams? Really? Who is going to book up those hotel rooms?

Florida/Florida State is really setting up to be a HUGE game for the bowl picture.
With that in mind, ULL really could have helped out LSU a couple of weeks ago in Gainesville

The primary concern of a bowl game is selling tickets. Everything else is secondary.

If florida beats fsu and notre dame lose to USC then florida plays bama for the title

Exactly. I suspect all of this hotel chatter stems from LSU and the Sugar Bowl back in the late 80s when the Sugar Bowl took Auburn over LSU even though LSU beat them. I really don't think it's a big issue anymore.

You don't give up BCS or $$$$$.

Exactly. This is where we are in CFB and it's been that way for a while. 2-3 nights of booked hotels and many one-dayers coming over. LSU playing Texas would have much more national eyesight; although, I do think the Cotton Bowl needs to set its eyes further east and north. That is, if they wanna be players like it looks like they're becoming.
Nobody wants to watch Texas A&M play Texas again -- especially A&M. Now that they are in the SEC (and doing quite well), they believe that Texas is in an inferior conference. The Ags are sticking their tongues out at the Austin Lib School and saying, "Told ya so. Now look at us." If Texas and A&M really wanted to play that badly, they would have scheduled a regular season game. Texas, already in the shadows of Oklahoma, does not want a thing to do with A&M. You are about to see the late 80's-early 90's again when A&M was always the 11-1/10-2 team and Texas was -- well -- irrelevant. Wayne Clements was over his head and losing battles in recruiting to OU, A&M, SMU, and Houston. The Horns are playing now much like their Bluebonnet Bowleqsue-calibur.
Back to the hotel rooms, I would think the Cotton Bowl may even want a Georgia -- talk about filling up rooms, against OU. I think Jerry and co. and Cotton execs would want to remove the whole Texas team-stigma. Maybe not...perhaps showcase the best in-state university ya got, be it Texas or even Tech. I think that's not what should be the focus. Who cares if the locals all jam the stadium? They would anyway for a 5-7 vs. 4-8 game. That's done. No hotels. No week-long celebrations.
The Sugar Bowl proved that hotels and spending money and staying long, long periods of time are the primary concerns as last year they said, "Hey, remember when VT came here in '99 c'ship vs. Florida State and in '04 vs. Auburn? They brought tons of folks and filled up rooms, Harrah's, restaurants, bars, and they were all spending damn near a grand a day. Bring them back to play Michigan!" What a horrible television mistake. There is a fine line. Texas vs. A&M in Dallas would not tip-toe it without crashing down on its big lunch crowd mania/leave town in the 3rd quarter to beat the crowds back to Waco, Houston, and cross-town traffic. TV wise, you would have to showcase it in a good slot, but not too good of one. It wouldn't hold its water on a weeknight competing against American Idol and all the other crap. You would need it it on a Saturday afternoon/Friday night. Sunday? No chance vs. NFL.
Georgia vs. Oklahoma/K State in Cotton would be the way to go. I'm guessing that won't happen.

Amazing how close we are to another championship. I guess it's like that every year though

Why are you banging your head?
Seems like the last time the Tigers played OU in the Sugar Bowl, it worked out pretty well.
Not to mention that if you throw Bob Stoops into a big bowl game, he can't find a way to win anyway.
I like to call them Choke-lahoma.

I think the Cotton/Jerry Bowl wants to present itself as more than a regional sideshow. For that reason, given the opportunity (i.e., depending on what's available to them), I suspect they try to go away from an all-Texas matchup.
