Speaking of first deer, my little boy killed one this weekend

Took him Saturday morning. He's only 4 so I wasn't really planning on him killing anything. At daylight a 6 pt comes out about 150 yards. Way too far for him to shoot. The deer farts around for a while the starts easing toward us. For the next 20 minutes we try to find it in the scope. Aint happening. Finally after I'd complexly given up hope of him finding the deer in the scope he says loudly "I see him". I reach over a click the safety off. I tell him to put it right in his middle and squeeze the trigger. He did and to my surprise the thing dropped like a sack of shite. Apparently I jumped out of my chair because I damn near knocked myself unconscious when my head hit the roof. I don't think Ive ever been so pumped up while hunting. It was friggen awesome.
We had been practicing with a .22 and a .17. I had him shooting on of my old 3d bow targets and he had gotten pretty good at hitting it behind the shoulder. I slipped him my .223 in the stand and he never knew the difference. He nailed the deer right through the pumping station and dropped it in it's tracks. Unreal. I've got pics but don't know how to post on phone.

That's awesome man. Congrats to your little fella. Becoming a man at 4 years old. Dads are always more excited about their kids getting a kill then we they get one on their on. Sign of a good dad imo.

That's awesome. I know exactly how you felt. I cut my head on a nail on the roof of the stand last week. I had a similar hunt with my daughter (5) last week. We had 3 bucks in front of us in a plot and I kept trying to get her on the biggest one. Everytime I checked it looked like she was on the smaller of the 3. I was excited and then I finally came to my senses and told myself "it's her first deer, let her shoot whichever she can." I cocked the rifle and told her to let it rip. Somehow she ended up shooting the best of the 3. It ranks up there in the top 3 deer hunts of my life for sure.
