Apparently he's come to the conclusion, that he will never take South Carolina to the top of the football food chain. With a resurgent Clemson program that has always been the man in the streets team over there, he knows his window has closed.

Quality depth will always be a problem for South Carolina, unless Georgia and Clemson are on probation simultaneously. His comments about Clemson wishing Lattimore well and a speedy recovery, were the last straw for a number of them. Combined with his prick of an attitude on the Gamecock Club circuit, too many boosters are over him. Plus they figure if Urban Meyer was able to replicate SOS's success at UF, then another more tolerable fellow can build on the foundation SOS laid.

My source, in addition to having been an All-American basketball player for South Carolina during the Frank McGuire era, is a regular guest, though not a member at Augusta National.

I could see spurrier retiring, but not for all that bullshite listed in you post... dude's one of the oldest coaches college football, and he's not an extreme work-aholic like saban or meyer.

There's not much else he can prove at SC.
