Hey all,

I'm learning the guitar right now, and I think it's way more fun to finger-pick (mainly because my hands are small so I'm not too great at chords )

Does anyone have suggestions for a beginner like me?

I've learned Susie Q, some Dire Straits songs, and some Grateful Dead songs so far. Ripple is really fun and easy

This guitar thing is way more difficult than I thought though

TIA

this confuses me. What do chords have to do with finger-picking? They're two different hands.

Learn these four chords and youll be winning Grammys in no time. G D Em C. You'll be able to play wagon wheel and let her cry. There are tons of more songs as well these were just the first two songs I started playing when I first picked up the six string. Good luck

Look up Deer Tick - Art Isn't Real on youtube, I'm at work but any of his songs on the first album will give your fingers a good work out.

Add F and Am to those chords. Then learn how to walk between chords. Go on You tube see how it's done, it is not that hard. You can now play 9 of Jimmy Buffets albums.

What up 'yak? Are you getting in on jimbeam's fishing club?

Rome: I'm new to it as well but some of my fav (easy) fingerin' songs are 'People are Strange'(Doors), Wish You Were Here(PF), Bring It On Home(LZ) and Moonlight Sonata. <-

Feels good to hammer out some Beethoven every now and then.

E: JB, Didn't see you in here

Seems a tad ambitious for a beginner.

Try some old Willie Nelson stuff. He has a very distinct picking style.

Also, one of my favorites is Ilegal Smile - John Prine

it definitely is. Harder to get good at, but once you do, there's just more you can do compared to a pick. I use a pick really just on solos.

some Dire Straits songs

Dont Think Twice Its Alright- Bob Dylan
Blackbird- Beatles
Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
Sultans of Swing (Might be sort of difficult, but worth a try)
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
House of the Rising Sun - Animals

Top 2 might be the best to try out, not too difficult.

Somewhere I read that something like 70% of all radio songs are based on this chord progression or a variation of it.

For a somewhat funny illustration of how many songs use basic chord progression, Pachelbel Rant

Its funny, give it a watch when you have time.

Blackbird may seem intimidating but it was one of the first songs I learned to pick back in the day.

Straight to Hell - By Driven and Cryin

G D C all the way the through. Dont forget the E-F#-G run at the into. Great song.
