As he should. He's not a very good writer or director, but he definitely has a talent for creating worlds/characters that are interesting.

I won't go that far. Two of his films (American Graffiti and Star Wars) are on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies of All-Time list - both of which he wrote and directed. THX 1138 was also a solid film that he made before American Graffiti. He also gave us the character of Indiana Jones. The dude is creative but somewhere around '81 or so I think he became arrogant with the success he was having and believed everything he shitted out of his brain was solid gold.

From what I understand, editing saved Ep. 4 from being a clusterfrick. So, I can't give him 100% of the credit for the quality of the film.
Regardless, we are talking about the current George Lucas, not the George Lucas of thirty years ago.

someone like Joss Whedon
I love Whedon, man crush type love.
But Star Wars is way wrong for him. Whedon is all about massive action and witty comedic dialogue.
Let Whedon keep with Avengers, and maybe get us another Firefly movie or something.
As far as space movies go, Firefly is Whedon's style.
Star Wars tends to go too dark for Whedon.

Dont care if the movies are good or not, I just want to see what happens after Return of the Jedi. If theyre good thats just icing on the cake.

I'm all on board with them not having any direct ties to any characters from the previous 6 movies with the exception of 3pio and R2D2.
Aside from stupidity, what did 3PO and R2D2 add to the prequel trilogy? They should not have been present.

Incorrect. Lucas thought it would bomb so he (or someone else) added the Ep.4 as a gimmick.
Incorrect. He added Episode V to Empire Strikes Back and went back to the original Star Wars and turned it into Episode IV.

Don't be surprised if Joe Johnston gets the call as he has been meeting with Kathleen Kennedy of late.... My boss was on the phone with him today in the office and he suggested this was a possibility.

quote:Yep, and the other poster is right about past characters. I think they should scrap them all, even the droids. Lucas thinking he had to have them in really did make their parts ridiculous.
It will piss them off, but who are they kidding? They'll wait 2 weeks in line just to see a new Star Wars film. If I were writing the script, I wouldn't really even reference or give a damn about that material if it stood in my way of making a better film. They're going to watch it anyway.
I say ignore the fan fiction. Whatever makes the best movie.

If they continue with Han, Leia and Luke it would be a mistake.

Have them in there but have the story be about their kids or something.

Disagree to a point. The Star Wars Saga is ultimately about the Skywalker family. Episodes I-VI feature them as prominent characters. It would make little sense to not continue their story in Episodes VII, VIII, and IX.

You have to be the worst kind of soulless bastard to hate on 3pio and R2D2.

This. You go to far ahead/screw the characters completely and you completely screw the whole point of the saga.

He worked on the OT so it would be like coming full circle for him, but he has said he wants to be apart of future Jurassic Park projects so who knows.
As for Lucas and the creative process. The Best SW and Indy movies - TESB and Raiders - were ones where he came up with the concept and overall plot ideas, let someone else write them (because his dialogue-writing SUUUUUCKS) and then let a great director handle the day to day creative. This will be his role with Disney.

IMO Episode 7 should be about hunting down the rest of the Imperial Forces in the Galaxy and an older Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order.

The OT/PT were about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker and his redemption via his son. He's dead. That part of the story is over. Move on from the Skywalkers. Hans was a badass, but Harrison Ford isn't a badass at this age. Just move onnnnnn
