I don't see how you do a post Jedi trilogy.
I'd not have any of the original trilogy characters present, with the possible exception of Luke and Leia, and they'd merely be Force ghosts. I'd jump the story ahead a hundred years or so.

wait what?? we already had 3 or 4 seasons of anime/animation clone wars. who the hell wants episode 7 to be animated?
They're not exactly limited to animation really. MI4 and John Carter was unofficially made by Pixar really, and they had significant imput in TRON Legacy.

Yeah I doubt we'll see any of the characters we know from before - except 3pio and R2D2. They almost have to bring at least one or both of them back even as just a small connection to the previous films.
As much as I like them, I'd rather not have them if it would mean something as forced and retarded as we got from them in the prequels.

I agree. Probably wouldn't even have Leia because she has let herself go and kinda sounds like she smokes a pack a day. Hamill I could see cast as a wise old Luke but with minimal screen time.

Saying that the bookreaders are a small piece of the star wars community is completely incorrect. Again why would you go completely against what has been cannon in the star wars universe for years, and piss off a lot of your fans. They aren't "hardcore" book readers, I know a lot of average people (even people who aren't really fans) who have read some of the books. I just think it's foolish to risk alienating a lot of your viewer base right off the bat.
It will piss them off, but who are they kidding? They'll wait 2 weeks in line just to see a new Star Wars film. If I were writing the script, I wouldn't really even reference or give a damn about that material if it stood in my way of making a better film. They're going to watch it anyway.

This, I want another star wars but it has to be done smartly. If they continue with Han, Leia and Luke it would be a mistake. Have them in there but have the story be about their kids or something. If they recast Han leia or luke I wouldnt see it.

Im the biggest star wars fan yet I'm extremely skeptical about these films. The prequels have almost killed star wars, this might be the final nail in the coffin.

Well, Lucas said he's passing on story treatments for episodes 7, 8 and 9. I hope someone is prepared to fix all the plot holes and pointless ideas.
I want to be upset about this, but who am I kidding? The fanboy inside of me is incredibly excited to see another Star Wars film (even if it's a direct sequel to 6
).
I'll just take a "expect the worst, hope for the best" kind of approach to this.

In an article I read in yahooI thought they mentioned reprising the roles of Luke, Leah, and Han??? I think it could work, but I am skeptical.
On a personal note when I first started dating my wife she had never seen Star Wars. I thought it would be interesting to start with episode 1, but instead decided to go the traditional route.
She ended up preferring the prequels bc of the Padme/Anakin love story. I call her a blasphemer everytime she brings this up.

I agree and I'll be the first in line I just worry that this is just a money grab and the franchise will be further diluted.

99% of movies are money grabs. It's an industry not a charity. Besides, the movies themselves are peanuts compared to what Disney will make off of merchandising and tie-ins. LucasFilms does alot of VFX work in Hollywood so that's another revenue stream. Hell people are already clamoring for/expecting a Star Wars themed park addition to DisneyWorld.
You combine the marketing and merchandising behemoth that is Disney with the mass appeal and loyal fanbase of the Star Wars empire and profits are the least of your worries.

Well, it's definitely a money grab. I just hope it's a money grab that happens to have a story that's worth investing my time in.

I know this will probably piss a lot of people off but it is possible to re-cast the roles of Luke, Han, and Leia.

The post Jedi books are supposed to be canon, right?
Yes, but the canon characters have all but died in the current Jedi Books. I say jump ahead 1k years, could make for good stories, would also be cool to do some "flashbacks" of what happened over the 1k years.

Just doesn't seem like it would be Star Wars without some connection to the major characters in the original trilogy. I would love to see a Thrawn trilogy, but I can't see them recasting Luke, Han or Leia. Something from the New Jedi Order could probably work though. The Yuuzhan Vong are pretty bad arse villains.
Posted on 10/30/12 at 8:13 pm to ZTiger87
I think 7, 8, and 9 will be direct sequels to 4, 5, and 6. It wouldn't make sense to flash forward 1,000 years into the future. Like it or not, I believe the original trio will make an appearance in these next three films. I could be completely wrong, but it doesn't make sense to have a completely unrelated trilogy of films to the previous six movies.

I doubt they do that. I think the films will take place years after Jedi and it will involve their chidren and the new jedi order. I think Fisher, Harrison and Hamill could still be in it just a lot older now.

Same here. Which is why I'm 99% sure that these will suck. If they're going to be direct sequels, move away from Luke, etc. What's going on in the Empire now that its two leaders are dead? Do they try bringing back the Senate? Does everything just break apart? That would be much more interesting to me than following Luke around some more.

You mean the worst love story in the history of cinema? Time to start planning a murder.
