To answer a lot of questions in this thread since my last post: Read the Thrawn Trilogy. That's more that likely the way they are going to go. Make way for this chick.

Okay I'm only familiar with the SW series as it relates to the 6 films and the two Battlefront games. So what is this Vong I keep hearing about?
ETA: Thrawn too? Can I get some cliffnotes people?

Just hit up Wookiepidia. That's what I did. And to clear up the canon thing this is what I pulled off of Wookiepidia:
quote:
"When it comes to absolute canon, the real story of Star Wars, you must turn to the films themselves—and only the films. Even novelizations are interpretations of the film, and while they are largely true to George Lucas' vision (he works quite closely with the novel authors), the method in which they are written does allow for some minor differences. The novelizations are written concurrently with the film's production, so variations in detail do creep in from time to time. Nonetheless, they should be regarded as very accurate depictions of the fictional Star Wars movies.

Okay. SPOILERS PEOPLE. (just in case)
As far as Thrawn goes. He's a Chiss, blue skinned human like alien with red eyes. He was the 13th Grand Admiral of the Navy, sent to the unknown regions by the emperor. He's the best of the best, and studies his opponents art to figure out how to beat them. In the Thrawn trilogy, he basically takes over the fragmented Imperial navy and begins to beat back the New Republic, with intentions of reestablishing the Empire. He enlists the aid of C'baoth, a Jedi Master (clone of him actually) to aid him, and in exchange he promises to give him the force able twins of Leia and Han. He literally owns the Republic for most of the books and is assassinated. I consider him one of the greatest villains (yet at the same time one you root for) in Star Wars novels. You have to read the books though to really get it though (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, Last Command) Also sets up Mara Jade as well for later books, as well as having classic characters like Lando, Wedge Antilles, Ackbar, Mothma, etc.
The Vong show up about 35-40 years after Jedi. Basically an alien race from outside the galaxy that invades planning to conquer the galaxy and subdue everyone to their religion (which believes that pain is the greatest thing in life) They fight to the death, and are outside of the force (cannot be sensed by Jedi) and all of their weapons and ships are organic (asteroid like ships, volcano like weapons). They take the galaxy to the brink of destruction. Again, have to really read the books to give it justice, but it really does well at keeping the original trilogy characters in action (though Chewbacca does die
) as well as newer ones like Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo, Tahiri Veila, Jag Fel, etc. Probably 2nd best series in the expanded universe.
Edit, forgot to mention. The Vong also consider all machines to be abominations and destroy them

quote:Awww. That's cute, but like I said, frick the books. They were written by people who can't come up with their own material and read by people who are so desperate for new Star Wars material that they will read anything. You know it to be true.
Luke changes that train of thought when he rebuilds the Jedi order, since he is kinda trying to rebuild it from scratch. In fact there are many Jedi married in the novels, all 3 of Han and Leia's kids are Jedi, Luke's is, etc.
quote:I'm okay with young monarchs. History is full of them. It's when I'm expected to believe that an entire planet of people would elect a 16 year old girl that I want to kill.
As for the teenage monarchs, better hope Tenel Ka isn't in the movie
Ans she's replaced by - another 16 year old girl. Yeah. Teenage girls are so rational and wise. Good call. Why do I get the impression that she was originally just a queen by birth and that liberal wine country douches ruined that and a lot of other parts?

Lol. Such a pathetic post it's not even worth really even replying too. Sure let's frick Star Wars Cannon just because you think you're funny and know something.

It's just too fricking cute, like the forced inclusion of the droids in the prequels was just too cute.
How the frick will it be forced when Luke rebuilds the Order and will highly likely have descendants on it? Each trilogy was about a Skywalker, so why not this one? And I'd have the Order more or less reformed, just in danger. I just really don't want to see a movie about recruiting.

Sidenote, Roland Emmerich has been dying to use this sort of idea for Independence Day sequels but hasn't because he has worked on other stuff and wants someone with talent to write so he doesn't have to throw in the towel and write the movie(s) himself.
frick off, GCA. I would pick a 5 year old to direct this thing before I'd pick Roland Emmerich.

You ain't too good at the reading comprehension are you? I was saying it would be similar to what RE wants to do with Independence Day's sequels. I never said he would be a part of this. He's a FOX guy through and through.

So who/what takes down the Vong? Seriously those bastards sound like the Westboro Baptists of the universe. Miserable asses

Basically the New Republic dies, forms a Galactic Alliance, which includes the NR, the Hapes Consortium, the Empire, etc, to fight the Vong. They get a big victory at Ebaq 9 (following Retired Admiral Ackbars plan) Vong come back with their own counters, which sets up the final book. Basically, final vong assault on Mon Calamari, stopped by the arival of a planet that has hyperdrive engines at Coruscant which sets up a final battle of Coruscant of the combined 5 GA fleets versus the Vong Armada (Vong outnumber them pretty badly though. I think GA has 2000 ships versus Vong's 5000). with a ground battle as well. Luke, Jacen and Jaina take on Overlord Shimmra as the final battle (very basic summary) when he dies, the rest of the vong take it as a simple the God's no longer favor them, and then proceed to commit suicide, or surrender without honor.
Edit for Blueboy: I can understand that, but I felt the books didn't do that too much.

I really think that they could just release a movie every 6 months to a year...they have all the stories just grab the actors and start shooting
I mean every year there are 40 or so SCI-FI films mass released to theaters
What's better?
investing
$125 million on a total Recall remake
$195 million on another Transformer movie
$215 million on Men In Black 3
$230 million on another Spider Man remake
$250 million on "john carter" whatever the frick
The SHITTY Phantom menace brought in $1 Billion
quote:
Budget $115 million[1]
Box office $1,027,044,677[1]
but it was so bad the next movie Attack of the Clones brought in 60%
quote:
Budget $115 million[1]
Box office $649,398,328[1]
Revenge of the Sith was the best and managed to do better, but couldn't bring back everyone that George Lost
quote:
Budget $113 million
Box office $848,754,768[1]
double the budget for each, start shooting, profit

I just really don't want to see a movie about recruiting.
I'm not opposed to descendants. Whomever the main character is, he/she would have to be connected to Luke in some way because he's the only one left. I just think him having kids, Han and Leia having kids and them all hanging out with each other would be gayer than shite.

I agree. Screw the continuity of anything that doesn't involve the original trilogy. I can just about guarentee they are planning on remaking the prequels, but they're just waiting for George to die, so I think the prequels will have minimal impact on the sequel trilogy.
And I sense some sarcasm on the Tron post, which kicked arse for me.

Han solo trio would be good too.

I'm not really proposing that either. I'd personally keep Han and Leia's descendants out of it, and just focus on Luke's. If they do have Han and Leia's descendants, I wouldn't make them major characters, just more a nod to the fans.
What I'm really thinking is make Luke's son in his mid 50s and have him try to save a collapsing Jedi Order his father built. It would put alot of burden on him and he'd be one of the most important people in the galaxy.

Why not? They're part of the Skywalker lineage...not to mention Jaina is the one who leads to the Empire's Jedi supposedly in the Legacy series 150 years after Jedi.
