I was considering getting my son a subscription to SI, but not now...screw them...

Yeah, much as it sucks, you have to ask yourself: If we weren't talking about LSU, who would you believe? A writer for SI or some shady guy running a shady club? I find the $2500 part of the story to be extremely suspect.

I will just look at them the way I look at ESPN now. ESPN has repeatedly gotten things way wrong in regards to LSU and the Saints, that now I don't really trust their information on any team.
And now that SI has Thayer Evans writing for them, I won't give them the benefit of the doubt either.

SI is a dying sports magazine and are on the level of gossip magazines now
yeah red, because they have to keep up with the TMZ type bullshite that ESPN produces on a day to day basis

why are they 'shady' just because they own a club??

Clubs are a pretty shady business. I'm not saying club owners aren't reliable, but they aren't as reliable as the owner of your local hardware store.

OP updated with new video that doesn't include the unwanted sound effects

I just checked WBRZ's website and they still don't have the updated story up. What an absolute joke, they lead with this huge news and nearly 12hrs later it's still not on their website.

I thought Herbie & Carso & Lou Holts were the bigger haters, but maybe not! :rimshot:

If we assume for a minute that everything the club owner said is true, why did the SI writer think none of that would be brought to light after the story ran? Secondly, who fronted the $2500? The writer? Doubtful. If he had it to offer, it came from someone much higher up. And, if that is in fact the case, how monumentally stupid would that person have to be? You're going to risk the entire reputation of that magazine for a story on Mathieu? If this is true, it damn near puts the magazine out of business. I just don't buy it. I don't think the story even causes a lot of problems for LSU to be honest, but I don't believe these club owners.

Thayer Evans has admitted to taking bribes to present stories in certain ways. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to pass some of his own dirty money along to someone else.

Because it's never been admitted "on the record". I'm actually very surprised that SI would hire him and that Pete Thamel would associate with him.

Thayer's Tactics Questioned
quote:
So, the question for Fox Sports is the same as the question that faced Murdoch: Did Evans’ editors know that he was breaking the law to get information? (Obviously, they did.) And the fact that the article posted on the Fox Sports Web site shows that the editors also endorsed this reporting method.
quote:
His shoddy reporting of the recruiting of a Texas prospect apparently cost him his gig with The New York Times. This could well be a repeat of past ethical shortcuts, albeit with a company that seems more open to the tactic.

This honestly does not surprise me a bit. CNN, who runs SI, is the most corrupt group of fricking arse heads in the world. They will sacrifice any goddamn decency and whore out any scrap of journalistic ethics they have to get some piece of shite story because their ratings are complete hog shite.

I will never buy an SI again.
