I had high hopes for Sinister and now it will be a Redbox at best.
I still give it a solid 6.5/10.

It was a good movie going experience

Insidious started off scary/freaky as hell and went into the shitter about halfway through.
I totally agree. The first half freaked me out more than I had been freaked out in a long time

I always try to.

And I can't wait to see V/H/S...just don't know if I can find a place that's playing it. It's limited release.

Also, did you ever go back and watch any of that list of movies yet?

i actually tried to watch the cube last week, and no kidding, like 5 minutes in, wife called me to come get her at work.

She's out of town, so I may try again tonight after I finish Daybreakers

I feel like I've seen Insidious before, but I can't remember when. I read the synopsis a couple days ago, and even watched the end, but I know I didn't see it in theaters. Feel like I need to watch it again then...I don't remember it being really scary, not even the first half really.

You might be a little disappointed in this movie. Not as good as I hope. Still have it on the DVR though so I might watch it again to give it a second chance. Movie had tits so at least it had that going for it!

How do you have it on your DVR?

I know it was OnDemand a week or two ago, but I didn't think you could record those.

I may have to bite the bullet (I think it was like ten bucks) and order it if I want to watch it.

Yes, DirectTV does this some times, showing movies before they hit the theater.

SPOILER

it was an 8mm film of a POV view of the killer watching the family in their living room at night from outside, then it cuts to the killer starting the lawn mower(really creepy music playing) and shows pushing it for a few yards then quickly you see he's about to run over the family one by one, it cuts RIGHT before the mower goes over the first person.

it's really creepy, especially the music/sounds

ETA: music from the lawn scene

ETA: the scariest reel music from the movie imo was the sleepy time reel.

Sleepy Time

Looking forward to Sinister but read the spoiler about the kids. Dampers expectations a little. Anyway, the best thing about V/H/S is the trailer. And yes the first half of Insidious is incredibly freaky. Watched that home alone one night with the lights off. Good stuff. Someone needs to figure out how to combine that and the first half of Jeepers Creepers and make it into one movie.

yea i really wish writers/directors could figure out a way to harness the horror factor of those movies and be able to continue it in the 2nd half of films.

I guess the nature of rising action in film/literature just makes it easier to have those scares in there, and as more is revealed, the less scary something is.

Still, I feel like Insidious could have been EPIC without all the weird netherworld crap. They should have kept more ambiguity

the creeper was freaky as hell at the beginning of JC

The first half of Jeepers Creepers is one of the best horror-ish movies I've ever seen.

And then it gets silly. To the point of actually laughing out loud.

First half of The Devil Inside was good too. Shitty ending (really terrible, actually).

The Possession from earlier this year was pretty good though.

I really wanted to see TDI before I saw people bashing it

Same with Possession

The part in JC when they drive by the creeper dumping the body and then he just stares them down. sooo scary. It's stuff like that, things where you can literally imagine it happening IRL, that scare me.

Not netherworld crap, not the cave of dead teens, and not killer kids.

The Descent was actually pretty fricking good and scary at times

Saw Sinister Sunday night. I actually liked it. Thought it was a pretty good horror/thriller film, and it did a good job of generating the creepiness. I do agree that it relied a bit too much on "quiet...building up....LOUD NOISE SCARE!!!" though. Stuff like that that's just there solely to make you jump feels so cheap sometimes, especially when they keep using it over and over. Like ya'll have said, it's not scary..it's startling, but it's still fun though.

Spoilers..

As for the plot, I liked it enough. I did not like how the kids were the killers...it's just not terribly believable. I was able to try and make myself buy into the whole "well, they're possessed by this evil spirit, so I guess" thing but it didn't work at times. I mean, how the frick could these weak, little kids tie their families up and get them into the situations they were in. Even at the end with Ethan Hawke's daughter, I sat there thinking "Is this kid really strong enough to wield that axe around? Cuz those things are pretty heavy." Also, "Did she really take the time to lay down visqueen before brutally murdering her family?" I agree it would've been better had Bughuul done the shite and the kids filmed it. Also, after the movie I was thinking about it...so these small, weak kids (except maybe for that one boy) were doing some of this shite one-handed. Most obvious thing was the lawnmower, where the kid was actually holding the camera while pushing the mower. At least for some of the others, the camera was stationary. But some of those kids would've never been able to pick up/drag/move around their parents, tie them up, etc. I dunno, that kinda bugged me. Also, side note: if you're gonna murder your family with a lawnmower, might wanna do that shite during the day...may alert the neighbors if you do it in the middle of the fricking night.

All in all, I liked it though. Solid horror movie IMO.

Seriously, it's almost worth watching because the first 95% of the movie is so good. But the last few minutes are just terrible. I'd still recommend it though, because it really is a pretty creepy movie.

The Descent is a very legit horror movie IMO. I loved it. It's not only well done in terms of "scaryness," but the whole trapped thing, as well as being enclosed in tiny spaces at times, gets at me a good bit, so it added to it.
