Working with wood from pallets: looking for tips

I am about to do some DIY projects with some pallets.
Does anyone have first hand experience at taking these apart? It is definitely not done by taking out nails... huge fail when I attempted that.
I'd also like to know if anyone has stained the wood or changed it in any way. I'd like to stain it but some pallets I know have been pre-treated with various things.
This will be for an outdoor project and also a wall hanging inside.
I found this video and unless there is an easier way, I'll be attempting this next: YouTubeVideo

A pallet jack pops the boards off real easy...

I somewhat took one apart last year with a pry bar and a hammer. A sawzall might work depending on how much of the wood you want.

I'm just glad to know that there are other goofy womenz in the world doing this. My wife has had a slight obsession to make something out of a damn pallet for the last couple months. From wall decorations to a head board for a bed, she has succesfully mutilated several pallets

Just go behind the Walmart where they stack pallets and pick up the loose boards...

She is definitely not alone. It's just such a bitch to get the apart. Hardest part.

Same here. I blame Pintrest.

Did she ever do it?
My last option is to saw the boards off, but will lose wood doing it this way.

quote:balls, these make great head boards... Just stick em back there and after a wild Saturday night and you tear up the head board, just replace your pallet... Ready for the next Saturday night..

Not yet. I am around pallets all day and I refuse to bring them home so she can work on a project that she will never start nor finish until her other 40 Pintrest projects are done.

I thought so too... Just don't need to be throwing my back out over this.
Maybe I'll just skip gym and use it as my lower day. Squats galore.

I just watched the video, for that much work, just go buy some new 1x4s. The wood is cheap, at it will save you a ton of time...

I keep going on my wife's iPhone and deleting that ap just to mess with her. I hate that website. I swear she goes to Target and Hobby Lobby 2x per week to get stuff for her Pinterest projects, like those are the only two places that have the stuff she needs. I've eaten more shitty meals and seen more 1/2 completed craft projects from that site than I care to mention.

I usually just cut them up with a chainsaw and use for firewood, but if I needed some 1 x 4's I would just go buy them.
