BGE with Stand = $1000
Academy Knock Off = $500 (Kamado)
Looks like the same features.
Home Depot has another Kamado for $700
Kind of leaning toward the Kamado but IDK, maybe I should go with the Egg.

Spend the extra $200 and get one of the top brands. Warranty and accessory availability are key. The ceramic on the cheaper ones is about half the thickness as one of the top brands too..

Which BGE is $1000. I know nothing about these things, but know the local distributor here. Intrested in seeing how much they are marked up.

I'm going to jump in like I've done on a few of these threads and suggest you look at pellet smokers. I have the Jim Bowie Green Mountain Grill and I absolutely love it. It's about as user friendly as can be. You set the temp (digital readout) , stick the meat thermometer in (connects to the digital temp monitor) and sit back and have a drink or two. I love mine.

Ive got a Kamodo Joe and its great. I use it a ton great quality and they don't nickel and dime you like BGE does. I would also go with the XL no matter which brand you get thats the only thing I don't like about mine is the space limitation. Got it at Tramontes in BTR. Good people over there
