The growing reputation of Titanic

It really is a marvel to see the evolution of the reception toward Titanic. A few years ago, Titanic had an IMDB rating of 6.5/10 and a Rottentomatoes meter rating of 73%. Now, in 2012, it currently sits at 88% on RT and the rating on IMDB is currently inching toward 8.0/10.
Titanic has secretly been in my Top 10 favorite movies for a very long time but now I am not ashamed to reveal my undying love for this film. It's a sappy romance story, but the production values, cinematography, visual effects, and acting are great all around, even if the story is somewhat cliched.

I hate it. It's a sappy love story revolved around a tragedy, where the female lead makes a series of retarded decisions that leads to her hubby dying and her living. Not to mention, she also throws an incredibly expensive piece of jewelry into the ocean for no reason.

My hatred of Titanic is probably rooted in being dragged to see it in the theaters about 5 times (the things we do for the noookie
)
It's a typical James Cameron movie. He artfully blends special effects with a passable storyline, and his movies usually hold up well through the years (age well).

This video sums up my thoughts on Titanic

I think Titanic is a great film, I really don't get all the hate the film gets

It's a very bad movie. I don't believe in forgiving a movie's shitty script because the special and visual effects were good.

I think a lot of that is due to DiCaprio's growing reputation as an actor. It's still a sappy chick flick.

I don't hate it but this x1000. It throws away logic, convenience, intelligence, and reality all to create a love story.
That's the worst kind of love story.

That's a fantastic picture.

Not really a surprise, it's the 2nd highest grossing movie all time both in the U.S. and world wide.

Very bad movies don't typically win 11 Academy Awards. Just saying.

It's very contrived, but it's very entertaining. SFX are incredible.

The Honest Trailer for Titanic LINK
From an event that spawned hundreds of amazing, compelling stories, comes a completely made up one.

It's a good movie, but not as great as it has been made out to be. It is saved somewhat by Leo and Winslett, though the scenes when they were together were a bit painful to watch sometimes. It felt like they were not exactly attracted to each other very much. What was really impressive about the film was its visuals. The boat felt real and enormous and impressive.
But Titanic was not even the best film of that year. Good Will Hunting was, IMO. The technical aspects of Good Will Hunting obviously couldn't hold a candle to Titanic, but it was made for far less money. It also had a better story, better characters, better acting, and better pacing. It never dragged, while Titanic felt hurried or too nonchalant at times.

This is what always pissed me off. That chunk of wood was easily big enough for both of them. HUGE fail by the prop department.

They show him getting on the piece of wood with her and they can't balance it so he stays in the water. It wasn't a matter of space.

One of my favorite movies.
