Yes he did and I can assure you that the coaches don't want that to become a trend and him get hurt but I can also assure you that it became a coaching point in the film room everyday since and a learning moment for Mett...

In the times that I've met Mett over the last year trust me when I tell you that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with his confidence and a pick here or there isn't going to shake him. That shot to the chest got his attention and I'm sure they have been working or blitz protection and recognition all week.

Guess what working on things in REAL game speed does, it helps with timing because no matter how hard you practice the game always moves faster and those behind them passes get corrected more in games then practice... I know that's going to be hard for some of you to believe but it doesn't make it wrong...

Wasn't the thing being said out of camp was that Mett was having trouble throwing the short/intermediate pass?

Seems like a good game plan against NT to get it worked on.

Geez more bull shite about the vertical passing game that we didn't do! Instead of explaining this again to the brain dead I am going to just watch the stupidity flow!

We averaged 6 yards per attempt with the swing pass. Expect it often if teams dont play press coverage and it will set up the vertical passing game. As much as we want a passing game, we will always be run first.

HHHHHHHEEEEEEYYYYYY!! GGGGUUUUYYYYSS!!!!

Miles and our hopes for a NC were *LIT UP* on that blitz!! He didn't want to take a chance of it happening twice. Thus alot of short secure passes.

We'll pass more downfield as the season gets going.

The OP is saying that we need to practice our vertical passing game against cupcakes like North TX. That is not rocket science

But the OP is wrong. Saban showed how to do this in college football. You protect the inexperienced QB for two reasons:

1. You want to build confidence gradually and get used to taking what the defense gives you.

2. Saban and Miles know hat any team can beat you. How many great USC seasons, under Pete Carroll, we're ruined against mediocre competition when they threw too much, turned it over, wore their own defense down, and lost?

Would you agree that the same staff has been critisized at times for being stubborn, having a lack of creativity, and not adjusting during the time period of 2008-2011???

Staffs/HC have always/will always be "critisized" for any number of reasons, valid or not. We all do it, including me.

When a fan comes out with the LSU staff needed to do this or that and ends it with..."end of story", like he's 100% sure he knows better than this staff...well, you have to excuse me if I'm a tad amused.

Look, I'm a Miles guy. I think, to this point in time, he's been a great hire and while he's not perfect, the success he has helped provide me with as an LSU fan allows me to let him make the LSU football decisions without nit-picking them to death.

I honestly don't see the big deal with our No. Tex play calling that has us still discussing it on Thursday. They gave us a certain play and we were effective, moving the chains, in taking advantage of what they gave us which helped add to 500+ yds of O.

But hey, whatever floats our individual boats.

LSU football is on such a awesome run of success that none of this stuff here bothers me at all.

Les used the new play book against Bama in the NC game J/K We all know Les is not going to let anybody pass down field unless that is the only chance we have to win!

After last night, do you realize how idiotic it was to overreact based on a week 1 game vs. N. Texas?

Do you also realize how equally stupid it is to come in 'after the fact' and make your grand proclamation that now that the passing game has shown some life you are validated? The OP was making an assessment off the game 'he saw' that weekend, and it was valid. No one knew if they would do it or not against UW.

I'm sure he's glad, as all of us are, that Mett is getting some quality reps passing downfield against these opponents as it will prepare us for the future when we get into SEC play and HAVE to make those plays to be successful. It's really not a hard concept to grasp if you just use your brain a little bit.

It shows that CLM listens to the Rant!

Les was interviewed before the half and he seemed to imply that they didn't follow the gameplan in the first game.

You really don't understand what an offensive gameplan consists of do you?

Stretching the field horizontally is something you do to open up your vertical passing game. It makes a defense play their safeties up closer to the line of scrimmage, and puts a defense in a position where their LBs are forced to cover more ground in a zone.

Go back to last week. Do you really think we could run the sluggo that effectively every time we pass? Hell no. You've got to set the sluggo up with the slant.

Thanks for proving that you're just a casual observer.

WOW maybe Les read my post...

TXGunslinger10...

You make me laugh, You're referring to my football knowledge as if you know anything at all about me. Being involved in football at multiple levels both playing and coaching I can assue you I understand the sport. My frustration was valid after watching the LSU for 4 years and 1 game and then like it was magic they did something a little different so it wasn't frustrating after this week. Even more crazy is that after next week there will be something else either really great or frustrating to post about.. See that's how it works, each week is different.

As for the passing game, it looked more aggressive and that's awesome. Next week hopefully it will continue to progress even more. Please don't come in here and try to sound like an offensive guru because you can explain how the sluggo is run. I assure you that our offensive playbook consists of more than 1 deep route that doesn't have to be set up by slants, but I guess us casual observers that haven't missed a game in 12 years just can't wrap our heads around it.
