I was a student in '65 & '66. Had a bed in Tiger Stadium. Those were the days. I was able to return in 2003. First time back to the campus in almost 40 years. Yes, things had changed a bit.

Don't hate. That story is my version of the "...had to walk uphill and through the snow both ways!" story my dad used to tell me about growing up in Tennessee.

...The Curtis "E" is Contagious campaign (with its mascot) was developed in the 1970s to help reduce fights in Tiger Stadium.

...The Gumbo yearbook dedicated two pages of photos of drunken fights and police arresting fans in the stadium.

...The stadium announcer would say..."Doctor, number 223, please come to the message desk."

College football teams could only be on television three times in one season, and five times over a two year period.

You know you are an old LSU fan when you remember when
The home games started at 7:30 at night and ESPN was not around to televise them.

There was also a rule that teams could only be on tv x number of times...

And home games started at 8

I ushered as a Boy Scout back in the 60's. You would carry some guys fifth of bourbon up the stairs, show them the seats and they would tip you.

In the 70's as student, your student id had a hole punched in it and admission was part of the fees/tuition.

As I recall, games started at 7:30...not 8.

"Before the age of high tech, cell phones, etc., you could hear public address annnouncer every once in a while Sid Crocker, saying, "Doctor, number, 1,2,3.. (or whatever the # was), please call medical exchange?

Bet those on-call doctors hoped it was not their # announced when these announcements were made, since it meant they might have to leave the game."

--------------------------------------------
I had forgotten that, but your message sparked my memory. I remember hearing those annoucements way back in the 60's when my Paw Paw and Dad took me to a couple of games over the years.

Later, I remember asking myself, "I wonder why they don't make those doctor announcements, anymore," only to realize that beepers and pagers took their place (along with "on call" doctors).

early 80's I would make $200 before halftime getting students drinks from concession stand. They also had a pregame party before the game that WLCS radio station hosted. I think it started at 4.

As a young child my father took me and my frother to show us the dorm he lived in at Tiger Stadium and his stories when he was a Boy Scout usher. As a student I was that Freshman Class that never saw a winning season as a student. I am happy for my Tigers and our fans for the current memories we are getting under our great coach.

I'm 41 so not that old but the stadium felt different back then. One of my fondest memories was the FSU game to go to the orange bowl. Oranges were thrown everytime we scored and they would push them off the field near the fence...we would grab them and sell them back to the students

I'm from NE La and only listened to the games as a kid. I remember looking forward to attending LSU and going to Fuddpucker's after the game just like they advertised on the radio.

To think my #13 Hodson jersey that I still wear to games is older than most fans

Is ODB the first starter to wear #3 since Faulk? I don't remember anyone but i am old and senile.

When there were hedges where the box seats are behind the north and south endzones
When the south upper was family section and adult tickets cost $3.00 and high school or younger were $1.00.
When Ole Miss was ranked in the top 5.
When the Golden Girls marched in front of the band and dropped their capes.
When kickoff was at 8pm and you could leave home at 6:30 and be in your seats for warmups.
When the yard line numbers were the fancy ones like they use at the Rose Bowl game.
When the refs threw red penality flags.
When the Tigers had numbers on the sides of their helmets.
When the Tigers had sleeve numbers on top of their shoulder pads.

I could swear it said:

. . . the . . .
He is ^ man

with "the" added like an afterthought at the top.

Am I remembering this wrong? (totally possible)

I think Thelein Smith (LB) was the first black player, around 1971. I used to sit on the steps of the union and talk with him.

Who remembers Carl Otis Tremble?
