The fact that Dany now has dragons though offers a whole new usable element to Varys' plan.
Jorah and Varys were in on protecting Daenerys from the beginning.
Varys was also responsible for Selmy to Daenerys.
Both Aegon and Daenerys are beholden to Varys/Illyrio and both acceptable rulers in their eyes.
Of course, Jon Snow will probably come along and frick all this up because he is beholden to no one.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say this revelation will be the prologue in A Dream of Spring. It will show Jeyne at Casterly Rock talking to someone about the betrayal/spying. Book it.

If he is a Blackfyre and Aegon turns out to be a false Targ (remember Dany being told to beware a false dragon when she visited the Undying), Dany is merely being used.

Hopefully. If he gets revived by Melisandre, his story could go anywhere because he would no longer be beholden to the Night's Watch. He died. His oath is fulfilled.

he also likely convinced Joffrey to behead Ned Stark in lieu of sending him to the wall (to start all out war).
Am I missing something, because I really don't recall this even being hinted at?
You are correct, I got Vary and Littlefinger confused.... (Not easy to do).

Ok. I can DEFINITELY see Littlefinger being behind it

Man Martin needs to hurry up. Never has an author taken so long to tell a story. damn.
Steven King has written 40+ books in the timeframe of ASOIAF and the entire Harry Potter series was written.

Here's a theory that not only is crackpot, it's also half-baked. Or at least half thought out.
From reading lots of his other stuff, it is clear that Martin draws heavily on his real life experiences and emotions in fashioning his tales. (As all good authors do I think).
His early loneliness comes through strong in stories like The Second Kind of Loneliness. His badly ended romantic relationships show in stories like This Tower of Ashes and Meathouse Man. These and other stories tend to depict protagonists as individuals who are successful at their work/careers but not so much in their relationships. His ambivilent views on religion come through. Sometimes he is sceptical as in The Way of Cross and Dragon but he tends to recognize the power of spiritual matters (And Seven Times Never Kill Man) And sometimes his endings are not as tragic as his reputation says. (The Stone City).
Given all that, here's my brilliant conclusion:
The ending to SOI&F may end a little more on a happy note than we are thinking (If I remember right, Martin himself said something like it'd be bittersweet). I think he's in a pretty happy place right now. Has been recently married. Enjoys traveling to his cons and other than sparring incessantly with impatient fans seems to be in a pretty good mood.
I think one of his characters may end up going off with one of the other race - whether that's Bran staying with CotF or someone maybe even going with the Others to wherever they go I dunno.
But I think we see a happy ending for at least one of the characters most closely based on Martin - Tyrion maybe or Arya. Or maybe Jamie which fits him in some ways.
Thoughts?

Jesus. That's crazy. Didn't Harry Potter start 6 or 7 years after ASOIAF?

He sent Maege Mormont with a letter naming Jon the heir. I have no idea where she is.
According to Alysane Mormont in adwd, Maege is with her other 2 daughters (who didn't go south with Robb's army). That must mean Maege probably made it out of the Neck is in contact other northerners.
Alysane was already trying to take back Deepwood Motte when Stannis got there with the mountain clans. Galbart Glover, whose seat is at Deepwood Motte, was the other one who was sent up the Neck to find the Reeds.
I'm sure Alysane knows about the Will's contents, just as the Mountain Clans know about Bran being alive. I would think also think they did some info swapping by the time they meet up in Deepwood Motte if they haven't already.
Also, the youngest Mormont daughter Lyanna (10 I believe) is the one that sent a letter to Stannis saying the only person they'll follow is a Stark. Jon wonders why she's the one to be replying because Maege should have left one of the older daughters on Bear Island.
Now who does this sound like? Manderly's daughter, Wylla who shows how loyal they are to the Starks, and Manderly tries to shush her. I don't think Lyanna was meant to send a letter like that to Stannis because we see Alysane join Stannis later.
Just curious, do any of you guys go to the westeros forums? There's a few threads about a Northern Conspiracy that goes into detail about all this stuff (and the possibility of a bunch of others who are in on these conspiracies).

quote:Yes, but the Blackfyres have waged war against the Targs multiple times. They believe that they are the rightful heirs to the throne. I don't see them siding with the Targs except to gain something.
The Blackfyres are also Targaryens

From what I can tell, it isn't an ancient feud. It has only been about 85 years.

I mostly lurk, but if there's one theory that I want to see play out as much as R+L=J it's the Northern Conspiracies.

To add to the Dustin/Manderly/Stout/Umber theory, there's this quote that could foreshadow their conspiracy:
More snowmen had risen in the yard by the time Theon Greyjoy made his way back. To command the snowy sentinels on the walls, the squires had erected a dozen snowy lords. One was plainly meant to be Lord Manderly; it was the fattest snowman that Theon had ever seen. The one-armed lord could only be Harwood Stout, the snow lady Barbrey Dustin. And the one closest to the door with the beard made of icicles had to be old Whoresbane Umber. (p. 542)
It could also foreshadow them becoming (Jon) Snow's men later on.
