They could probably skip a lot of the Greyjoy stuff unless it's absolutely crucial to the end game.
They obviously need the Red Viper but not too many more Martells.

i think we can lose the Sand Snakes

I wonder if Vargo hoart will be skipped. As Roose has Jamie now.

I doubt it. We have no idea what they are up to, but I have a gut feeling they will play a major part.
Supposedly, one of them is already at the Citadel posing as a Maester in training.

Yes. He is skipped. Someone else will be doing that dirty work.

Most of those characters, unless already brought, on aren't relevants until AFFC right. Damphair (except briefly in season 2), Victarion and Crows Eye don't get introduced really until the kingsmoot starts and the Martells wouldn't be brought in until long after the RV is dead, so they shouldn't be relevant until season 5 I would suspect.

Vargo is renamed Locke. He appeared in the last scene. But he won't be a Brave Companion. Simply a Bolton soldier

Well, they are being sent to Kings Landing. Except for Serella. Supposedly, she is in Oldtown, and Doran Martell is "leaving her to her game".
ETA: My point is I think they will play a big part of the next book.

Thanks for clarifying, Cola. I didn't explain it at all

Oldtown

quote:
Where are her last known whereabouts?
Leading the Brotherhood somewhere around the forests of the Neck hunting the Freys.
What else is in the Neck?
Greywater Watch.
And who would be at Greywater Watch?
Why Howland Reed of course, the only living person who knows what happened at the Tower of Joy and be able to confirm if Jon is indeed the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.
Catelyn learns of Jon's identity this way and fraught with guilt over her contempt for Jon, she sets out to reveal to him his true identity.
Who better and more credible to break the news to Jon Snow than Catelyn?
Would be pretty great.
Catelyn has gone mad, and possibly the ONLY thing that could bring her back from the darkness would be Howland reminding her of her love for Ned.
Finding out that Ned never betrayed their marriage could overcome her with a sense of purpose to help fulfill his promise to Llyanna. With that wall that always separated her from Jon torn down (pun intended), she could actually grow to love him as one of her own now that she believes all of her own children are dead or lost. The two of them could share in their grief for the lost Stark children.
Would be a really nice turn actually.
I still like the idea of the Starks rising from the crypts as a last line of defense from the Others once the Wall falls, but this is a very good theory as well.
Would be great if they could both play out somehow.

Every time they drop a character, it makes me worried about the books. I always think that some people will be a waste of time if GRRM allows the show writers to just drop them. If Gendry replaces Edric Storm, I have to assume his role in the BWB will be minimal in the future.

same here, just console yourself with the idea that they still might transfer the significant actions to another character

We might see a lot of Jean-Luc Picard memes in the book readers show threads.

I don't really know. The Westeros.org website believes that she is Alleras the Sphinx (Alleras backward is Sarella). The Citadel wants all of the magic destroyed. They are sensing it coming back since the dragons are back. I think the Martells absolutely want to see the Targaryans back on top so they can be on top because of the pacts that were made. My suspicion is that the Martells are behind Varys and Illyrio.

I can do without Vargo, without the Sand Snakes, without a bunch of characters.
But I surely would like to see Patchface with his insane but surprisingly prophetic yammering.

Also, I read something that got me thinking.
This line in Davos' chapter in DwD:
Wex is telling him and Manderly where Rickon is. Apparently, they are referring to an island of cannibals called Skagos. Has this been referenced anywhere before? I had no idea what this was until I saw it upon my exploration of the ASOIAF wiki page.

Davos looks long at where the dagger has landed, pondering whether it would be better to go back to the dungeons and eat porridge for breakfast as it is better than places where men break fast upon human flesh instead.
