Varys>>>Littlefinger

This. They are both masterminds, but Littlefinger thirst for power makes him vulnerable while Varys extreme secrecy keeps him out of thought and out of mind to the major players.

Varys has yet to show any form of weakness, Littlefinger's is Sansa.

Littlefinger is such a mystery to me. There must be something more to his story to explain his motivations.
It must be more than just ambition. He was already Master of Coin and could have been Hand. I think he is too smart to sit on the Iron Throne; that's just a good way to get killed.
Maybe he just wants to play the Game of Thrones?
His actions seem to be aligned with Varys. Many of his moves seem to be to create chaos around KL.
I think he is mad because he was told that he is not good enough because is family has nothing just a bit of land with more sheep than people. He was smarter than people in the other houses but would never be as good because of his birth. He want to create chaos and destroy yhe system that tried to hold him down. Even with his talents, he would not have risen that high if Lysa did not pester Jon.

If Varys ends up being a Blackfyre or a Targ then he wins hands down.

Why was this on the second page???

What if he already told us his motives... he told Ned that all he wants is what's best for the realm.
If that is true then he will work to install whomever he deems most fit to rule.

He's not going to spill the beans to Ned. At that point Ned was supposed to go to the wall and remain alive.

Oh he's definitely looking to put Aegon on the throne. The only question now is whether Aegon is a Targaryen or a Blackfyre.

So what do the people of Essos know about the Others? Are they too far south? The legend of AA seems to indicate some contact but where does that legend come from? Mel is from Asshai but Maester Aemon seemed familiar with the story.

He is a Blackfyre. Plenty of evidence to support it.
The only question for me is, who is the Targaryen.
The dragon has three heads. Dany + Jon + ?

Blackfyres are Targaryens

Not acknowledged Targaryens though.
They still have ties to Old Valyria that are as strong if not stronger than the Targaryens however.
I don't think the Dragons will know the difference in Targaryens and Blackfyres.

Varys riding a dragon would be awesome.

Not where claims to the crown are concerned.

Just finished AFFC, and man what a chore that was to read. I didn't like deviating from the characters we've grown to love/despise in place of people I've barely heard of or care about. Also didn't like the fact that Jon Snow and Tyrion weren't really present for the story. Plus Arya and Sansa hardly were present either (say what you will about Sansa, but her chapters are interesting). I did really like the stuff dealing with Cersei and Jamie though.
And is it just me (and I know the character is not present in ADWD), but is Littlefinger really running the show and responsible for literally everything? Everyone in this war has experienced some sort of major loss besides Littlefinger. Jon Aryn was killed due to Littlefinger. Ned Stark came to King's Landing because of Winterfell. The start of the war between the Lannisters and the Starks all really starts with Littlefinger lying to Ned and Catelyn about the knife, which was certainly intended. Ned Stark was captured due to the fact that he wouldn't go along with Littlefinger's plans. Littlefinger takes out both Joffrey (who was likely to screw everything) and Tyrion out in one fowl swoop by having Joffrey murdered and having Tyrion take the blame. He now rules Harrenhal and the Vale, and soon plans to overtake the North as well, with Cersei ensuring the destruction of the Seven Kingdoms through her own doings. The only thing Littlefinger didn't seem to see coming was the Red Wedding, but even that plays to his advantage as well (despite the fact he's probably devastated about Cat's death), and he feels he has Cat in miniature form with Sansa. I'm not sure what to think of their relationship at this point, since Littlefinger seems to be far too sincere with Sansa compared to everyone else. I know he is in love with her, but I'm wondering about ulterior motivations besides perhaps taking over the North.
Sure Varys is up there as a major player, but Tyrion and Jamie certainly put a wrench in his plans (whatever they may be, which I suspect he's awaiting Danerys' return), and he's off god knows where with Tyrion. Can't wait to see their adventures together in the next book, if they are together that is and Varys isn't camping out in the bowels of the city.

Is this your first read through the books?
If you haven't read A Dance with Dragons yet then I could see where you might not think Varys has much going. I'm assuming by that comment that you haven't.
And Littlefinger thinks he's running the show. But it's not even close.
