Poingurding the Hornets

I have heard a lot of comments on who will be the starter point guard for the Hornets next season, and in average it looks like most people think Vasquez will start for a while until rivers is ready and then Rivers will take over. As part of this opinion, it appears that most people think that Vasquez is a temporary solution. I get the feeling that people are too carried away with names and characters. To be honest, I think that if we could ask Monty he would answer that he does not know who will be the long term PG for the Hornets, and this season is basically an audition program for that position. Therefore, it is possible that Vasquez could become the long term PG of the team, if he surprises with a particularly solid first half of the season. It is also possible that he only does and OK job, and after the second half Rivers takes over. It is also possible that the future PG of the hornets is not yet in the team. What do you think?

Cp3 after next seasons playoff appearance...

I like Vasquez and think he has a heck of a future, but he isn't a PG. He is a playmaker and leader, in the same mold as Manu and Harden (though not quite as talented). I'm glad he will get his chance to shine and I think he will become an important part of the team. But he won't be the PG and with the league loaded with them, that could be our team's weakness.
Rivers is a pure scorer and should develop into a great SG. I'm not sure why the team wants to change him into a PG, but he could probably get by and become an above average PG. I just don't think it's where his talent is.
With Gordon, I think we have 3 good to great SGs. Which is confusing to me. I'm guessing they will just rotate whoever is the best fit to check the lead guard, but it's a strange arrangement. Hopefully they do find a solid back-up/pure pg. They will need one eventually..

Guys like Westbrook and Rose are basically SGs. So if people can accept them I don't get the problem with Rivers being a PG.

Yeah, but they are undersized SGs that are explosive athletes. Rivers has a great first step, but he isn't the athlete those two are. Plus Rivers is a true 6'5 and growing. He might end up 6'6-6'7.

I think we probably need to be big time players for a quality FA PG after this season. Or try and get a good one in the draft.

I think this FA PG talk is overrated.
So as far as true elite PGs go there are Paul, Rondo, Williams, Parker, and Nash(old).
I don't think we need to freak out about the PG position right now. Let's give Vasquez and Rivers a chance and focus more on SF and maybe finding another Big Body to add to our front court rotation.
Also Vasquez was top ten last season in assist per 48 minutes.
