CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Michael Jordan said there's no way Kobe Bryant and this year's USA Olympic basketball team could've beaten the 1992 Dream Team.

Jordan told The Associated Press Thursday that he laughed -- "I absolutely laughed" -- when hearing Bryant's comments that the U.S. squad training in Las Vegas could take Jordan and company.

Jordan said there's "no comparison" which team is better.

"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said prior to playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Charlotte.

"I heard Kobe say we were not athletic," said a smiling Jordan as he sat in a golf cart puffing on his cigar while waiting to tee off. "But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Pip (Scottie Pippen) was 26 or 27, (Charles) Barkley was 29, Patrick (Ewing) was 29 and Chris Mullin was 29. Almost everybody was still in their 20s."

Yeah yeah, there is a thread on Kobe's comments already, but: 1) MJ is the GOAT and deserves his own thread; 2) this thread is about MJ's comments rather than Kobe's

And for the record, the Dream Team would destroy this 2012 Olympic team.

'92 had 9 hall of famers. I'm not sure this 2012 squad will have more than 2.

1992 and 2012 are built completely differently, its just a silly discussion.

You'd have to completely overhaul the roster of 2012 to deal with Robinson/Ewing/Malone/Barkley up front. No chance Chandler doesn't foul out, and he'd have to be on the court the whole game.

Regardless of any talent differences, the 1992 team is built like an NBA team, and the 2012 is built for the new international game.

Well, he probably didnt believe Bobby Hurley, Chris Webber and some college kids could beat them either. We all know how that turned out.

Kobe and Lebron will continue to gather up whatever scraps fall off Jordan's table of legacy while they ride out their careers in his shadow. Congrats to both of them for a tie for 2nd best.

Obviously Jordan is right.

Lebron is the only guy that would start on that Dream Team.

The stars in the NBA who DID NOT make the Dream Team in 1992 would beat the 2012 team. The NBA was sick back then. But, I've already covered that.

the two most egotistical sociopathic personalities in professional sports history think their respective teams would win the hypohtetical game? simply shocking.

It has been said already, but I'm not sure more than 2 off this year's squad would even make the 92 team...Kobe and James

I was only 5 years old when the '92 Olympic team played, and I STILL remember those games.

I'm now 25 and can honestly say I won't give a flying frick about the 2012 Olympic team 20 years down the road.
