I started out with a Perception Pescador 12. It's hard to beat for an entry level kayak. Stable enough, tracks great, and pretty quick. The bad about it is the inability to stand, and the seat isn't the most comfortable. After a few hours you'll get uncomfortable.
I've never owned one, but I paddled an Ascend FS12T. Looks like they've gone up in price since earlier models. It was a bit slower paddling, but much more stable and comfortable than the Pescador. If you can find a used FS12T or FS128T for a price you are comfortable paying, as long as it's in good shape, I would jump on it.
Other than those 2, the other brands mentioned a few posts up should be explored.

Ive wrestled w the idea of selling my 12' Ascend. I think I bought it 3 yrs ago. Maybe used it 10x. Its camo which i had planned for using it for duck hunting myself. Taking it out this weekend and possibly still could sell now that i have a boat.

I'm getting married 3/17 and will be out of the country for our honeymoon for Marsh Madness so I won't be able to make that one this year.
It's easily my favorite tournament each year though, I guess I enjoy the unknown of not knowing your tackle until the morning of, I highly suggest giving it a shot. Plus the door prizes for the weigh in this year are pretty legit.
We're working on details though to setup one of the Salty Boot events for the weekend before to give people a chance to explore and scout.

Good. Is there any decent lodging there? Anyone interested in splitting the cost to rent a place to stay?

Coco Marina has lodging on site at the marina and I believe they've offered the club a discounted rate, just tell them you're with LKFC when you book. I think a room for 6 is $175/night, give the marina a call, it just might take them a day or so to get back with you. Rooms are pretty nice and right on the water. If you happen to get a room and need people to fill spots post it up on the LKFC forum and most times people will jump in. Or I'm sure others will be booking a room soon and posting up open spots. I think there's a couple others on the OB who might be trying to fish it as well.

Looks like I'll need to get a tandem kayak being married with two kids (5 and 1). I thought gun shopping was tough, this is tougher
What about Brooklyn Kayaks? They have a real nice tandem 12' with the third seat option.

When you demo the Slayer, you might want to demo the smaller Titan as well. I like the layout a lot.

Reds were stacked up in PAC.
32 from 11am to 1 pm yeaterday. Kept 5 between 16 and 22. All on minnows 2 feet under a cork. Probably could have caught on plastics but wind was so brutal i just wanted to use up the minnows and get home for the football games

Are any of you guys with pedal systems left handed or know someone who is that kayak fishes? Everyone I have seen with a pedal drive has the steering control on the left side. I may be over thinking it, but it seems like it would be a huge PITA to have to switch hands with your rod anytime you need to turn. Is there a way to get steering control moved to the right side? The Hobie forums haven't been helpful.

nice day NJ that's a whole lot of tight lines! didn't see any troutz?
and drunken not sure on the Hobies but on my Radar you can move the rudder controls to either side

Yep. My rudder control on my Outback is on the left and wish it was on the right. I think the Jackson is Ambi, but the Natives are not. The Hobies I believe can be switched. I purchased mine used though.

The money spent on some of these kayaks, why not just buy a boat with motor ?
