As long as we are above .500, I think the Rant will be happy. The average fan, beat Ole Miss ans State, and we're good. I look for 3-9, or hopefully 4-8, depends on if we beat Florida.

No reason we can't win it all this year. We are loaded and the QB position can't get any worse.

While I do think the LSU offense might be better with a change at QB, you guys have to remember that Lee had like a 160 rating and only threw 3 picks last year. I know his talent lacked but he didn't "lose you" any games last year.

If you think back on the last 8 quarters of football of LSU football....

They didn't cross midfield on 1/9 and the first half of the SECCG, they couldn't pick up a first down on UGA.

To go 14-0, especially out of the SEC, you can't have any saturdays like that. I also think the SEC as a whole is going to improve this year. The only team I expect to fall off is Arky.

To the obsessed Gator---Agree with #1, we did over achieve last year, and trust us on #2-We know! that we'll have a better QB since 2007.

Please note quarterback play during these games. Really soak it in.
After doing this, think about what was missing from this team as it pertains to next year. This will answer your question about our expectations.

I have higher expectations for the start of this year than last year because I didn't know how good LSU was until after that Florida and WVU game, but stuff like injuries can happen. However, if everyone is healthy and we beat Bama, I don't think this team will be easily stopped. Of course I'm not guaranteeing a Title, but I think this team has a much better shot if they show up. They have the pieces of the BCS puzzle.

Hey, Florida might be pretty good too, but I think the LSU defense will be too tough to score much on with 2 early NFL prospects at defensive end in Mingo and Montgomery.

The last 8 quarters? Do you recall us skull-dragging UGA in the second half of the SEC Championship to the tune of 35-0?

I hope your team underestimates us like you this coming year - we'll curb-stomp yall worse than we did last year.

All Mettenberger has to do is sometime in the first two series of downs in each game throw a 20 yard strike to a receiver over the middle. Anything like that will prevent the opponent (especially Alabama) from putting 8 players in the box. From that 20 yard strike on he can just hand off to the backs.

Had Mettenberger been started at QB to start the 2nd half in New Orleans and pulled off that 20 yard play LSU would have won.

If we had won the NC last year, I agree with you there might be some letdown and we would prob lose to a Bama or SC but....

The way we lost and the fallout that happened from that have this team (and this coach) PISSED OFF. The coach should be kicking his own self in the arse because the loss is on him, but all that being said, I think the revenge factor will be HUGE and this team will again play in the SECCG. We may do that with a loss but Bama will have a loss to us, so we would beat the tiebreaker.

NC is anyone's guess, I never bet on that, too many outside factors influence this, like media's love of all things USC.

The fact that you can't figure out WHY this happened, and what's occurred in the offseason to fix it, really defines you as a clueless SEC and Florida fan.

I think that hype is ridiculous. I seriously think Tyler Wilson and Aaron Murray are as good as Barkley, and both of those QB's were on the ground when they played LSU thanks to Mingo and Montgomery. Same thing would happen to Barkley, and a Title would come our way. If LSU makes it and if USC is the opponent, we win.

I'll go for 10 & 2 as long as we beat Bama. However I expect Lsu to be in the running again for the NC!

Why are you so obsessed with us? Don't you have enough problems of your own as a Florida fan? If I were you I would be on a Gator board trying to figure out how to get some sort of relevance back in the SEC east if I were you. You've got a long way to go to get back to winning SEC Champs post Tebow. LSU is the least of your problems right now.

BTW how did you like that "jump shot" TD last year right back at ya? I bet you didn't think Miles could remember that far back to 06. As a Tiger fan being at both games I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Even if Mett turns out to be the antithesis of JJ/JL, it will be extremely difficult to duplicate the regular season we had last year.

13-0.......500-143......Beating 9 bowl teams... Playing four times against a team ranked in the top 3 (going 3-1).....Scoring 40 or more points 9 times.
That's a dream regular season for anyone.

That said, we still have as good a chance as USC, Bama, Oregon, Florida State etc. to play in Miami; and we may not have as good a record as last year....

I'll start off saying that LSU has as good of a chance as anyone to win it all next year, and I believe the game in november will determine that national champion :insert mulligan remark:

Having said that, I think LSU will take a small step back on defense and a small step forward on offense. Claiborne could lock down one side of the field, brockers is gone (I know freak is good, but brockers/freak/logan meant little to no dropoff when a starter went to the bench)

The experience lost on defense will not allow it to be quite as good as the 2011 unit imo. While Baker and hatcher weren't world beaters they logged a ton of snaps over their career, same goes for ron brooks. The talent will be on par with last year, I would just expect more mental mistakes from the defense, mainly the secondary early on. The loss of Ron Cooper shouldn't be underestimated either, it was pretty much a consensus on here that he was the best DB coach in the country.

The bright spot here is that pretty much every other supremely talented team in the country will suffer turnover also and the toughest teams on the schedule come later in the year when the kinks should be worked out. If I were an LSU fan i'd be dissapointed if the year ended without a national title, but I wouldn't expect perfection and complete dominance like last year. Those with P&G glasses surgically attached to your face, flame away..as for the rest of you I hope you can see the honest assessment

Put your money where your mouth is.

LSU 11/2 odds to go 12-0
Not sure what the over/under on UF loses but it ain't 7.

I think that's a little ridiculous to be disappointed in a 10-2 season in the SEC.

Especially considering you guys will be starting a QB will hardly any game day experience. Not saying that he isn't talented....just that nobody really knows and he has never been tested in a game.

I expect LSU to take a step back this year but still be in the hunt. I can see them dropping a game to someone like USC, UF, or A&M and then losing to Bama. 10-2 is about what i'd expect out of them.

9-3 is a let down.
11-1 is a really good year.
12-0 I will be more shocked at this than if UF loses 8 games.

We started Jordan Jefferson at QB in the NC game. How, exactly, did his experience or his performance give you the impression that our QB could, let alone actually will, be any worse this year?

We are a consensus top 3 or 5 team going into the season. Winning exactly 10 games this year (counting bowl, SECCG, etc.) would be:

-The 3rd worst of Miles' 8 seasons
-Only the 2nd time in Miles' 8 seasons that we fell short of preseason expectations and ranking (despite being ranked in the top 8 preseason in six of those eight seasons)
-A 3-game step back from last year despite playing an easier schedule by far

Why wouldn't anyone be disappointed in that?
