I think LSU will take a small step back on defense and a small step forward on offense. Claiborne could lock down one side of the field, brockers is gone (I know freak is good, but brockers/freak/logan meant little to no dropoff when a starter went to the bench)
The experience lost on defense will not allow it to be quite as good as the 2011 unit imo
Same thing people said after 2010 when we lost Nevis, Sheppard and Peterson.

I thought that after his condescending back handed compliment 1st post. Then he posted that gem & it was obvious. What a douche.

I'd be pleased with a 10 win season and a major bowl birth.
However, due to the fact that we will have a real QB for the first time in years, I expect more.
I'm just not sure whether or not the 2012 team will be good enough to beat Bama twice. I'll have a better feel for that after our first game in November. If we beat them in a close one, January will be a toss up. If they beat us, we just hope for the Sugar Bowl at that point.

First you talk about...
Then you talk about...
When Lee never saw the field.
And the QB responsible for that is not here. And we faced two top-5 defenses in those games. And we scored 42 points against one of them (not all by the offense, I know). And our schedule is much weaker this year.
Even with that shitty offense last year, we went 13-0 while playing two ranked OOC games away from home, by far our toughest SEC game on the road, and three games against top-3 opponents with only one of them at home. This year, we will likely play only one top-3 opponent, and that will be at home. Teams we beat by 30-40 points last year are not going to be so improved that they beat us this year.
I'm kind of glad everyone in the country seems to be able to remember only one of our games last year. I hope our players have their fill of hearing about it and go out and do something about it.

Lee had like a 160 rating and only threw 3 picks last year. I know his talent lacked but he didn't "lose you" any games last year.

They didn't cross midfield on 1/9 and the first half of the SECCG, they couldn't pick up a first down on UGA.

This is being pumped up for a reason because...

The part I put in bold wasn't supposed to happen. According to the talking heads, we didn't have a chance in any of those games. Once they were proven wrong, something had to be done. 1/9 gave them the satisfaction they desired all year. Now we have to deal with it as fans.

Well I don't think most expected brockers, logan, and claiborne to play the way they did. You all knew they were talented but not THAT talented
Maybe some will step up just the way that they did but I think there will be a small dropoff. The number of snaps logged by the guys lost is more than 2010 I would think. Secondary is key unit and you're losing 2 of your consistent talented players and replacing them with minimal experience

I'll start off saying that LSU has as good of a chance as anyone to win it all next year, and I believe the game in november will determine that national champion :insert mulligan remark:
One thing is certain: IF Bama wins, eliminating LSU from NC contention will be important for them. LSU should be a lock for the Sugar Bowl at that point if they can knock of Arky in Arky.
IF LSU wins, it just sets up a rematch and makes Bama's road to the title that much easier.
Like I said earlier, I don't think our 2012 team would be good enough to win the rematch. I think they would lose in Miami, but it won't be a 21 point drubbing.

Simon and Mathieu (presumably the starting CBs this year) do not have "minimal experience". At safety, we have talent and a good bit of experience.

Everyone knew Claiborne would. As for Brockers and Logan, anyone going into a season not expecting LSU to have amazing talent and performance in the DL just hasn't been watching LSU football for very long.
If you have to find a weakness on the LSU defense this year, your only hope is maybe in the linebackers, but Chavis has made a career on having great linebacking units and we'll be pretty strong there again this year, too.
As for offense, not only do we get a practically guaranteed upgrade at QB (at least over the last four games of 2011), we also welcome back our consensus best offensive lineman going into 2011 who missed the season due to injury, along with the bulk of last year's line. At running back, we're obviously loaded. If there's any part of the offense that MIGHT not be as good as last year, it's at WR, but then we didn't get all that much production there last year (at least in the last four games) because of the lack of a QB who could get them the ball. Beckham, Sheppard and the others all have talent, and with a legitimate passing QB, should be fine.
LSU should be better in 2012 than we were in 2011. 2012 has been the year people have been pointing to for LSU for a while now. 2011 was a pleasant early surprise, as we were picked to be very good but finish 2nd to Alabama, not in the nation but in the division. We exceeded expectations by winning the division and the SEC, and would have had the NC a year early but for the Mulligan.
The only thing that legitimately COULD derail us, other than some freakishly unlucky rash of key injuries, is overconfidence. I think 1/9 probably took care of that.

1- I disagree. We will be better than Alabama in 2012. We weren't better in 2011. That, combined with the lesson learned on 1/9 about not preparing for a game, gives me confidence that we will beat Alabama next year no matter how many times we play them.
2- We won't have to. There is no way the poll voters will give Alabama another rematch if we beat them in November. I don't like our chances of getting a rematch if we lose either, but ours are probably better than theirs (a sense of "fairness" will be on our side in that case). And, if there is a rematch, LSU will win it no matter who won the first game.

Chavis was very high on Brockers (I only recall him and Mingo ever receiving praise from Chavis in advance).
Logan was the only "surprise" among the three (and chalk one up for the late Dandy-Don on Logan; he was giving Logan major props when he first committed.)

I'm not so sure. Using the circular logic of "see, Bama should've been there on 1/9 since they won", the media feels justified in pushing for the Mulligan. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of voters feel the same way, which they can use to justify another do-over this year.

Bingo. Now other teams with Bama's "status", like USC, ND, Michigan, OSU, etc, will all be in line with their hands out waiting on a Mulligan when they lose their most important games. I can see a team like USC finishing third in their conference in the next few years being ushered into the NCG when they weren't even good enough to qualify for their CCG.
I fault LSU for this, though: Had they beaten Bama in January, we could have avoided other entitled media darlings getting this same treatment in the future.

My Lord, move on man..it's obvious they deserved to be there and a special set of circumstances allowed for it to happen..blame an overtime game and iowa state, not alabama and the media. It likely won't ever happen again but some of you act as though beating bama means nothing because oh well they'll just get a rematch because they're bama. It was hard to decipher wich team was better in november and the scoreboard reflected that. In '96 the best 2 teams played for the title because they were clearly the best 2 teams in the country..they played on the last weekend of the regular season and the game was decided by 3 points, it didn't happen again for 15 years

The media won't push for a Mulligan. Last year's BCSNCG got the lowest TV ratings in years. National disgust with the rematch forced the previously unthinkable switch to a playoff onto the front burner. The media (read ESPN) won't want another PR and ratings disaster like that.
The only sentiment in favor of another rematch this year will be if LSU loses a close one at home in November, and voters feel an obligation to give us the same chance that they gave Alabama against us last year. But even that won't be enough. I think the media and the country have had their fill of BCSNCG rematches. Strangely, though, they will be fine with a rematch if it happens in a playoff.

It's hard to draw any other conclusion about last year, but I agree it's unlikely to happen again soon.

Not true. Florida was ranked #3 going into that game. They only won the NC because #2 played and lost in the Rose Bowl.

The drubbing they put on #1 would have at least earned them a split title, would you agree?

Do you really believe that the media's love affair with Bama had no affect on voters?
