I know they're very different restaurants, but if you could eat one meal at either place, which would you choose?

I'm a native New Orleanian, but haven't lived there since 1993. My wife and I will be in town for a couple of days in June and I was thinking of making reservations at August until I noticed that GW Fins was the highest rated New Orleans restaurant on tripadvisor.com. Plus I remember a number of you on this food board raving about GW Fins.

So locals, help a brother out and give me your opinion.

TIA.

Tripadvisor is only good for so much.

Fins is awesome.

But August is the best in the city, period.

August by a mile and get the tasting menu with wine pairings.

I do like Finns though, dined here at least a dozen times over the years and have never been disappointed.

Have not made it to August yet but was disappointed by GW Fins. If you have a free evening try Restaurant Patois. It was the best meal I had when I was in NOLA in December

Fins is fine. But there's no contest with August. It's August by a mile.

I'm not here to bash, but I've had both of those experiences as well.

August.

GW Fins a chain that outsiders would recognize, versus August a name that insiders keep from thier own friends. Take your pick. August by the distance from LA to NOLA plus airfare.

Went to Fins once, wasn't impressed. Haven't been to August, but I'd still say August hands down.

Yeah, this one wasn't even close. I'd heard good things about Fins, but clearly the board thinks August is superior. I made our dinner reservations at August btw.
