I think one of the New Orleans semi-pro soccer teams used to play or practice there, that's why people are thinking soccer goals in that spot.

I'm not sure that spot is big enough for a practice facility, but I could be wrong.

based on the fact that it seems the saints' practice facility can fit in that spot, i'ma bet it's big enough to fit a few basketball courts and workout rooms, etc.

go down the road along side saints facility, hit the T, saints on left, hornets on right.

It's a bit of a tight spot, but its not all that much smaller than the Saints Practice Facility and Offices (sans the outdoor field and some of the parking).

There are obviously things you can do to condense the spot: built it "up" by having the office and training rooms below or above the main basketball courts, build a parking garage instead of a sprawling parking lot, etc.
