I know people want to be negative sometimes because its Benson:

But there's almost nothing bad about this. This guy might have the 2nd most clout in the entire state behind Jindal. shite, he might be more powerful now than Jindal.

That Sports/Entertainment Complex downtown will only grow now. Maybe a downtown training facility? Maybe on Airline Drive? Expansion of Champion's Square and some new restaurants? Cross promotion between the two teams? More promotion on his media conglomerate?

If the Hornets add just 2-3k season ticket holders because of Saints fans....

Its a great day to be a New Orleans Hornet people. A GREAT DAY.

MOTHER frick YES.

I think this is an unfair characterization. There is a thin line between cheap and business savvy.

It was said that Chouest was unwilling to go above 300mm.

You shouldn't be happy, you're probably about to get downsized, that's what happens with big corporate mergers. The BeeZanies will probably be replaced by these guys

Truthfully man, if that's the case, so be it, I'm still excited. Today is a great day to be a Hornets fan, we will FINALLY have an owner and now its time to look forward to Lottery/Draft and onto next season.

Benson was referred to as Satan by a lot sports fans, now, he's the savior of the Hornets.

Benson is the original savior of the Saints as well FYI.

True, but he later went through a period of substantial assholery.

Well aware of that. Just think it's funny how time changes your views on things. He won Saints fans back by winning. Let's hope some of that rubs off on the Hornets.

Cross promotion between the two teams?
This is one of the main pluses I see in the near future. The Saints are already huge in the city. With Benson owning both teams, he will make damn sure the Hornets are promoted to the already entrenched saints market

He did. He tried to crush the Zephyrs coming here. He did not want the Hornets here. He wanted to move the team and threatened it on several occasions. He was a PoS.

I think he's a bit of changed man in his old age though.

I'm treating this as nothing but a positive until he proves otherwise. I'm pumped.

I'm convinced this coincides with the later 70's and very early 80's...........then they start to accept the age and turn into the kindly old grandpa.

Which is 5% higher than the Forbes valuation... Obviously, owning both would increase the value to Benson.

Benson deserved every bit of criticism back in 2006 when he threatened to move the Saints. Conversely, he deserves every bit of praise for his commitment to the city and team since, including his willingness to spend money to bring in top talent and his flexibility in negotiating with the state.

As for Chouest, he made a strong push buy the Hornets from Shinn but Shinn was so cash-strapped he made the negotiations impossible. Chouest made a strong offer, but Shinn tried to screw him by making him take on debt that he had already bought from Shinn.
