Damn...Toms pulling out of Zurich?

I hope this is just temporary frustration from that tough course taking a toll on him over the last week.

David Toms deflated after ugly finish at Masters, says he is unsure if he wants to play in Zurich Classic
AUGUSTA, GA. – David Toms was finally having a good round at the Masters on Sunday before a four-putt spoiled everything on the 16th green. Toms played the final three holes in 4-over par Sunday and was so exasperated afterward that he questioned whether he even wants to play in his home-state Zurich Classic later this month.
“It’s like, ‘Why beat your head against the wall?’” said Toms, who shot a 3-over par 75 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 8-over, tied for 50th place.
Toms is scheduled to take the next two weeks off before playing in New Orleans.
“That’s my tentative plan, but if I’m not playing any good … that’s a hard golf course,” Toms said of TPC Louisiana. “You’ve gotta be precise. It’s gonna be windy. It’s always tough.
“We’ll have to see how it’s going leading up to that.”
Toms was clearly speaking out of frustration after such a deflating finish. He actually hit the ball well throughout the week but struggled to score because the Augusta National course was playing so long.
Then Sunday Toms was playing his best round of the week, with four birdies and two bogeys through 13 holes, before the fast, hilly greens got the best of him.
Toms bogeyed the 14th hole, then double-bogeyed the 16th hole with that disastrous four-putt. His first putt failed to catch a steep ridge by about two inches, leaving him with a severe downhill second putt.
Toms finished with bogeys on 17 and 18, including a three-putt on the final hole. He said he was actually happy with how he played the 14th, 17th and 18th holes but said some minor bad breaks hurt him each time.
“That’s the type of course it is. When you’re a little off it kind of magnifies everything,” Toms said. “The golf course was not a good one for me. I mean, you had a guy that shot 8-under par today (Bo Van Pelt). I couldn’t shoot 8-under par if I played a scramble out there. So, I mean, it’s just not a good golf course for me. At least under these conditions.”
When asked what he took away from the week, Toms said, “That I’m not playing very good. And that I need some time off and re-evaluate what’s going on.”
“I mean, I’m not even close to contending. And so it’s not fun for me,” Toms said. “I mean, I don’t play golf to try to make the cut and finish 50th place. So if I don’t feel like I got a chance to contend, then it’s kind of like, ‘Why do it?’”

Sad to hear........great representative of LSU. Hopefully he will take these next two weeks off and get things right. Sad because he had a pretty good season last year.

As long as Bubba is back, it won't be so bad this year.

Bubba has a month old baby that he and his wife just adopted two weeks ago, and he just won the Masters. He ain't coming to New Orleans.

I hate to say this, because I wish the best for a local product, but he sounds like a whiny bitch in those quotes.

One of the nicest professional athletes I've ever met.
He just sounds utterly frustrated in his own game and doesn't want to embarrassment himself in his home state.

He did make the cut at the masters shooting 73 73 the first two days only to go 75 75 the last two.

Uh, about that.
Masters champion Bubba Watson may consider skipping Zurich Classic
AUGUSTA, GA. – New Masters champion Bubba Watson is scheduled to be in New Orleans later this month to defend his title at the Zurich Classic. He wasn’t quite ready to commit to those travel plans, though, during the blur after his first major championship victory Sunday night.
Watson’s first priority was to get home and spend time with his new family. He became a father for the first time less than two weeks ago when he and his wife Angie adopted a one-month-old son named Caleb. And he talked all week about how hard it was to be away from his family.
When asked when he will travel next and if he still plans to play in New Orleans, Watson said, “That’s a great question. That’s a great question.”

Of course Bubba is in the promo since he's defending champ. But, i could easily see him backing out this year.

I would be shocked if he didn't come. He is the current champ and all his buddies are going to be there.

he was frustrated after a rough end to the day...can't blame him for feeling pretty shitty. he will cool his head and play

really? shocked? he has a two month at his home in Florida that can't leave the state because the adoption isn't finalized. And, you would be shocked if he misses one of the worst tournaments of the year shortly after winning the best tournament of the year?
Who cares if he's the current champ? Who cares that his buddies are going to be there? His wife and son will be in Florida.
He's not going to a crappy golf tourney instead of spending time with them. It isn't happening.

What is he not going to golf anymore till his kid turns 18? He will be in New Orleans, he is defending champion and he will play. May miss the cut and head home but he will be there is my guess.

I never said that. But IMO, the Zurich Classic is one of the worst tournament venues and courses that the pros play every year. It is the perfect timing and venue for him to continue a break. I would imagine he'd come back and play at Quail Hollow the following week.

I'll give you the course...it's bottom 5 on the PGA Tour.
The event itself though is pretty well done. There are numerous reports of players enjoying themselves while here. The pro-am is consistently rated as one of the best on tour, and since these guys are forced to play in it, that makes a difference. Also, there are organized events for players that wish to part take in them off the course that get good reviews. Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by "venue."
