Ah, 1973. Memphis State's most prestigious basketball team, yet they couldn't beat LSU. Haha

Memphis is a top 15-20 job. That isnt even up for dispute. they play in one of the nicest arena's in America, pack the house, are located in a hotbed for basketball talent, is the #1 sport at that school, & just joined the best (or one of) confernces for basketball. It's definitely a better gig than LSU for basketball.

I agree with all of that. But, just because their young HC doesn't like their new conference affiliation, and may want to jump ship to a deep-pockets Ath-Dept school. It doesn't make him a homerun hire, even with where LSU Hoops currently resides in the hoops food-chain.

Not really impressed with his teams toughness at CUSA level, let alone when vs Sagarin Top 25 teams. Felt he largely out-talented them, despite his legit competency.

One thing this whole coach search has brought to light is the absolute fact that college basketball coaches are way way over paid.

2 million for TJ? I find it hard to imagine why he is worth more than 60K.

I just don't understand why a profession that can occasionally pay in the millions is loaded with smart people that know the job well.

Think about apparently LSU is going to struggle to find a good x's and o's coach. Really! Shouldn't anyone makeing millions coaching basketball be a freaking x'x and o's guru? How is this even freaking possible!!!

All things considered, I just don't see Pastner leaving Memphis for LSU. If he is "interested," I think it's just a salary play.

None of that makes up for having to live in Memphis. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy.

I think that most peoples view of Memphis, from those who dont live there, is this.

#2 Most Dangerous City

I grew up a block from Cooper/Young and loved it. Memphis aint a utopia but there are nice parts. And let's be honest, Baton Rouge isnt winning any best city awards any time soon either.

I've just visited Memphis..but couldn't agree more.

every city has a new/trendy part, along w/ rough part....vast majority of people everywhere live in suburbs....Memphis isn't anything awful that some other place isn't.

Pastner is falling out of favor in Memphis. Certainly possible that he would take a job at LSU.

I've lived in both.....Baton Rouge is a better but smaller city, but Memphis has awesome suburbs. Germantown and Collierville are nicer than any suburb in the Baton Rouge area....but nice suburbs are a trait of a declining city.

Still, Memphis isn't quite the dump many say it is. East Memphis is a great area and downtown is very nice.

Seriously, though....basketball is to Memphis was football is to Alabama. Fans follow basketball very closely, and even non-alumni support is pretty impressive.

The Commercial Appeal, the main Memphis newspaper, reports that Pastner hasn't made contact with LSU. Fans here are sort of calling BS to the rumors.

I'm not saying LSU has reached out to him, but do you expect him to acknowledge it if they have? Signing day is tomorrow. At this point, it's agents talking. Josh probably hasn't personally talked to anyone.
