I thought we were talking about overall importance of a team. I e - Memphis is a top 25 program, we aren't even on the radar.

Sure we'll never average 17k a game (impossible logistically), but a few successful years and overall we'd be a better program.

There is just a lot more upside for LSU in the SEC than Memphis in the Big East. Even in basketball.

maybe. Memphis will always have better resources. They may not always get the right coach and basketball is cyclical but overall LSU probably wont ever be the program Memphis is.

From a fan attendance standpoint, maybe not. From a winning and perception standpoint, we could easily be Memphis and more.

its doubtful. Like i said Memphis has more resources and puts more emphasis on basketball than LSU does. None of that is probably changing in the next 20 years.

Pastner has to be on top the list. Ive said it many times. He is an understudy of Olsen and Cal. Great recruiter.

You talk about Memphis like Cal is still there. Outside of his few year run they haven't been very relevant in basketball on the national scene over the last 2 decades.

With the right Hire LSU could absolutely be what they are on the court. Even with less resources and less fan support. But winning brings both.

Jamie Dixon is not a possibility. He just took a commitment at Pitt from the son of a close friend. Would not have done that if he is even considering leaving.

Pastner

Who knows if LSU has interest in him or he has interest in us, but following behind Calipari and the expectations he engenders might make for a reason to break away or at least try to improve his contract.

Look at LM here in football with all his elite success...you have those here who will never fully accept LM cause he's not NS.

but im wondering what hannagriff's source for this is.
I did't get that Hannagriff was actually reporting any news, it sounded like he was just promoting the idea.

LSU, however, isnt close to either school
THat's actually a BIG understatement. Right now LSU basketball fan support is on par with that of Nichols State or Glenn Oaks High.

I don't think attendance wise we are, or will be in Memphis's league anytime in the near future, thats not really up for debate, but, as we have all seen, LSU fans WILL support a winning product when it comes to basketball. I think we could do a lot worse than Pastner. He's young and would generate some excitement/enthusiasm in our basketball program again that is desperately needed and would recruit the everloving hell out of Southeast Texas.

i doubt LSU could win 137 games in 4 years...that's 34 wins per season...Elite Eight, Elite Eight, Final Four, Sweet 16...i just don't believe LSU could pull that off in the SEC.

Memphis basketball will be a whole different animal in the Big East (for the better)

remember that NC State offered Josh 2 million per year and he said no...so if LSU wants to offer 2.2-2.5 million for a coach that's 0-10 against the top-25 and 0-2 in NCAA games...go for it.

moreover Shaq Goodwin and Damien Wilson have both signed binding LOI's.

good luck in your search...Johnny Jones is a damn good coach. (ex Memphis HC)

Most Memphis fans are idiots also.
Jerry the King Lawler is one of their biggest ones. He's went online pissed as hell about their state of football.

And wow, lots of Memphis fans on this site I see.

Those years were great for Memphis. What about the other 16 this last 2 decades?

Like I said earlier, you can only hang your hat on the Calipari era for so long.

Memphis will never see another 4 year stretch like that. So yeah, LSU probably couldnt pull it off. Neither will Memphis without a top 3 coach.

^ Cal could only duplicate what Gene Bartow had done back in 1973...taking Memphis to the NCAA Finals...08 was not our first trip...and it won't be our last.

as for the 90's...you seem to forget Penny Hardaway, the 1992 Elite Eight and the 1995 Sweet 16.

not to mention our run in the 80's

So Memphis has good teams once every 10 years or so, and never has won an NCAA title.

How or why can LSU not duplicate that?

I didn't forget them. I don't see how their success is so unattainable.

Im not hating. But don't act like Memphis is some basketball mecca. It was when John Calipari was there. That is no longer.

LSU has the potential to be just as good as Memphis with the right hire. To act like Memphis is at some high level is just being ignorant.
