Shopping for a new 1911

Well, I can't wait any longer, I HAVE to buy a new pistol. I am getting a compact or micro compact 1911 in .45, either a Springfield or a Kimber. I am left handed and want ambi-safety and will reverse the magazine release. From what I have read, these two best fit what I am looking for within my budget ($1000-1200). Any comments, feedback, suggestions?

Springfield over kimber?!!! It's not even close IMO and I've shot both.... I own a colt combat commander and absolutely love it, ultimately chose it over the kimber....

I have a Kimber Custom II. I have only shot mine and my FIL's old Colt 1911. I would take my Kimber over the Colt any day and so did he. He purchased the same pistol as mine a month after shooting it.
I don't know much of anything about any brands compact sizes but I have heard that all of them have trouble cycling rounds in the smaller frame. My next purchase, after I research it a lot, will probably be a Pro size Kimber. They have the same frame as the full size but with a shorter bull barrel and minus 8 oz.

I have this one as well. The average run of the mill Kimber might not stack up to a custom. I do not know because I only own the one Kimber. I also own two springfields that are fine shooting weapons. All the negatives I hear about Kimber seem not to relate to the one I own. For a carry gun that should see lots of holster wear and handling I would probably go with a Springfield. I carry my Springfield. I haul my Kimber to the range and that is about the only place it goes.

I want a 4 inch barrel in a Springfield.

I'd go with a basic full-sized Colt for my first 1911. Maybe improve the sights over the government model, but that is about it. Check out what Valtro is offering if you can stand the wait.

How much bones does a basic colt run?

$700ish for bare-bones.

Interesting...
Kinda torn on my next $700 purchase. Rifle, truck bumper, or 1911...

Would be a tough choice between the rifle and the 1911.
I would go Springfield. Kimber has just got to much negative press out there. Regardless, always check any 1911 you get for good fit.

80% chance it will be a rifle.
I want something with colt stamped on it REALLLLYYYYYYYYYY bad though. Not sure why. Ive just always had a major itch for anything that says colt on it.

I completely understand that.

Admittably, my Kimber is a safe queen. It's the 100 year anniversary of John Brownings design and kind of special to me. I shoot the shite out of it at the range but it's never been in a holster and is for sure not a truck gun.
However, it's been almost flawless and only a couple (literally 2-3) stovepipes while breaking her in.
I would feel comfortable buying and carrying any modern design of the 1911 from reputable companies. I will be getting a Kimber Pro Carry to go on my side. Why? I personally love my first Kimber and will give them the benefit of the doubt for my next 1911.
Good luck finding one that fits you though! I was happier purchasing my Kimber more than any other gun I own.

Yep the Kimber Ultra Carry II is one of the ones I am considering. The other is the Springfield Loaded Micro-Compact. Problem is, it seems like neither of the models by either manufacturer are readily available. My dealer says it may be MONTHS before he can get exactly what I want. Supposedly the Kimber is harder to get than the Springfield, but both are a fairly long wait. Don't know whether to wait or start researching again...
