I just saw Silence of the Lambs for the first time. I understand that "Hannibal" is the sequel and "Red Dragon" is a prequel. In which order should I watch the next two?

Hannibal and then Red Dragon ... that is the order they were released and will probably create the best story line ... i personally liked red dragon better however

Manhunter is another. Manhunter & Red Dragon were both based off of the novel Red Dragon. They were just made about 16 years apart.
Manhunter
Hannibal Rising was done in 2006. Its set before all of them.

Just watch "Man Hunter," and call it a night.

Hannibal Rising is a meh gore fest. It gives some perspective on his past, but overall not nearly as enthralling as SOTL or Red Dragon (one of my favorites)

Manhunter was first (based on Harris' first Lecter series novel, Red Dragon)
Silence of the Lambs (the second novel and perhaps Harris' best of the series)
Hannibal (Harris' third novel . . .but the movie changed the ending)
Red Dragon (another based on Red Dragon, obviously . . . not nearly as good as Manhunter, imo, but entertaining)
Hannibal Rising . . . not in the same league as any of them . . . but maybe worth a watch for fun.
Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs are required viewing. Both very good films.

Nice breakdown.
What would be your order to watch if I've only seen SOTL?

Hannibal then Red Dragon. Go from bad to good. They made Hannibal Lecter into some cartoonish like bad guy in Hannibal. It blew. Red Dragon if it had came along before SOTL with the same cast would have had as much acclaim as SOTL, IMO.

It's probably been debated ad nauseum on here but IMO Manhunter>>>>Red Dragon

Been awhile since I've seen either, but I remember Red Dragon being much closer to the book than Manhunter was.
As far as Hannibal Rising goes, wasn't that just movie studios pushing the author to write a new book to turn into a movie? I think it takes away from the Lecter character by giving him a reason to turn evil as a young person. Just have him be born evil.

Actually, watching both gives you a pretty good picture of the book. Manhunter explores Dollarhyde's connection to his grandmother in more depth, while Red Dragon focused more on the conversion to the Dragon. Watching both gives a pretty complete look at Harris' Dollarhyde from the book.

Hannibal Rising is utter crap

Hannibal and Jane gumb is possibly the best duo of villains in movie history. But you like Hannibal more than you dislike him.

Here is my advice...
don't waste your time with Hannibal. Terribul cartoonish movie.
Watch the original ManHunter rather than the remake called Red Dragon. ITs just better.
