We've been out to eat multiple times so I'm going the "at home" treatment. Dinner, wine, candy, rose petals, dim lighting, etc.

P.S. If you want a steak and are thinking of Sullivan's...ALWAYS ALWAYS go the Ruth's route. (prob too late for reservations though) But heck, depending on how long y'all have been together go anyway and sit at a table in the bar area.

My husband or I will be cooking something at the homestead in place of fighting the crowds on cupid day on top of the inflated prices and crappy service. If you want to take her out for a good steak & service do it any other time. Buy her a piece of expensive jewelry and then dine & wine her yourself.

You're taking your Valentine to a place where the hot waitresses wear skirts and fishnets?

Prayers sent.

I'll more than likely be cooking for my wife. You couldn't pay me enough to stick myself in a restaurant on vday.

Valentine's Day is such a bullshite holiday. I have never put my husband on the hook for that. Not even when we were just dating.

Same here! A couple of years my husband bought me flowers from a florist. Their prices are so freaking ridiculous for Valentine's day! I told him to stop doing that.

Hats off to women who scoff at VD (Valentine's Day), My wife is the same. I used to make something special, but since I cook every day for her, she said "I don't need the calories".

Greeting card holidays were created for that reason, to sell greeting cards.

Sullivan's royally messed up our Valentine reservations a couple of years ago. Friends without reservations got seated before us, after waiting almost an hour after our reservation time, we left. Will not be back.

Even in high school, I thought Valentine's Day was a forced holiday. Going out to eat on that night is a rookie mistake, in my opinion. Too crowded, the service is usually not good and there's a good chance your meal won't be up to par. Restaurants trying to turn tables quickly at prime time... What's the point?

Not sure why you need and excuse to go out for a steak, but you could consider eating out the day before or the day after, when restaurants are madhouses. It would be a shame to be a victim of the holiday.

If you insist on going, I hope it works out for you. Ruth's Chris is used to big crowds. If you're going, definitely try for a reservation there. I've been many times when it's packed and everything worked out fine.

I'm always let down when ordering restaurant steaks. 1.5" off the big green egg is the only way I roll now.
