Why are some people butthurt that he doesn't want to go see Obama either? I don't want to go see him either, so does that mean someone needs to get butthurt about that too?

It was a dick move. I'm no fan of Ogump either but I would still go along with the tradition.

He's also the only American on the team. So the sole American is the one refuses to meet his president. He's turning a non-political event (let's face it, every title team in every sport gets an invite - the only person I can think of who turned it down was James Harrison, and that was on truly bizarre "you don't invite the losers too" grounds) and turning it into a political event. Which is a shame. This is one of those "acts of state" not "acts of government". He's being a douchenozzle and making it all about himself, reportedly over his teammates objections.

this

i'm all for sticking to your guns and making a statement, but what statement is being made here? it's selfish and drawing the attention away from his team and organization

Actually, Thomas is going to make an announcement on his facebook page to detail his reasons. He is also making it a big deal. this isn't an accident, he is most certainly seeking attention.

Then call him out for that, but him not going should have no impact on the rest of the team. If he wants to be a douche nozzle, let him, the rest can go and enjoy the expirience.

If I didn't already hate the Bruins, I'd use this as an excuse to start. Thomas is a great goalie, though.

How you would feel if the Orioles won the WS? You know Luke Scott would not go.

I would be too drunk to notice. But when I sobered up, it would piss me off. Well, maybe not someone as inconsequential as Luke Scott (I'm aware of his politics but he's a backup), but I'd be pissed if Matt Wieters boycotted the event.

Is Wieters openly political or were you just that as an example of a key player or both?

I'm not a fan of Obama either, but I would go meet the leader of this country. Tim Thomas is a douchebag. And being the only American on the team really magnifies it.

Example of a key player. Scott is very political, but not a key player. I don't mind that he gives political interviews to the Sun... actually, I kind of like it, as it makes him slightly more interesting. But Scott's not exactly a core player, so his absence wouldn't be noticeable.

Notice a trend among sane athletes?

The same Mark Chmura that was partying with and fricking high school chicks? Oh the irony.

Might Obama bear some responsibility in this?

IMO, this is more of a reflection on Obama than the hockey player. There is nothing that so defines us as a nation as our Constitution and no one has so dishonored the COTUS as Obama. It should not be thought surprising that an American citizen would stay away from him. Let’s honor those who honor the COTUS and disregard those who do not whatever their title/office may be.

I don't have a problem with it. I would have gone, but then again, I would have probably said something stupid to our president.
