His records are unbelievable. He retired with 1,549 catches and next closest is Tony Gonzalez at 1,149. The only two that could maybe even sniff this record are Calvin Johnson who has 366 catches at age 26 and Larry Fitzgerald who has 693 catches at age 28.

He also had 22,895 receiving yards and the next closest is TO at 15,934. That is 7,000 yards behind! Larry Fitzgerald has 9,615 yards and Calvin Johnson has 5,872.

Rice had 197 tds and next closest is TO and Moss at 153. Fitzgerald has 73 and Johnson has 49. Gronkowski has 27 in just two years.

Even at 39 and 40, Rice put up 83 catches for 1,139 yards with 9 tds in 2001 and 92 catches for 1,211 yards with 7 tds in 2002 when he went to Oakland.

yeah, which is why many consider him to be one of the top-5 players in NFL history. He was damn good. And I hated him.

What is more impressive is that he did it in an era where the WRs would get drilled and pushed around without a flag.

I can't imagine what a primetime Rice would do with these rules.

Gonzalez is 35 years old and needs 400 more catches. He had 80 catches last year. He would need to average 80 catches for five more years to catch him. I don't think that will happen.

That's why he's the GOAT, certainly at his position and maybe any position.

And he wasn't 6'4 or that fast. Just did everything right.

If Fitzgerald can get solid & steady QB play, he might have a chance. Albeit slight. Look at the numbers he's put up the last 2 years without steady QB play.

Pretty much. He offered pure, CONSISTENT domination at a position in which it's very difficult to do that.

And how he did so was no fluke, his workouts were abolutely legendary, doing things everyday that almost all other NFL players would've had great difficulty getting through even for just one session. He is the definition of GOAT.

No question, but Moss was the most talented.

I consider him the best player ever to play in the NFL.

Some agree. Some do not.

Which is why we should rate players on production and not "talent". Babe Ruth wasn't a five tool player, he's just the best player ever.

Not knocking Rice but he definitely took full advantage of having two hall of fame QB's throwing too him.

I agree he is the best ever however...

What would have happened to a WR like Fitzgerald if he would have played with Brady his whole career. (assume he had another HOF qb if the careers don't match up perfectly.)

Not trashing either. I thinking Montana is the GOAT. I'm just stating Rice and his QBs helped each other out.
