Frankie and Johnnies as well as Cooters have posted that they have them. I read someplace that Big Fisherman has them as well but they are like $6 pound, but considering in season they are $9 pound up here I would still buy them at that price.

There's a new place on Metairie Rd about a block from Severn. They are doing a bunch of boiled seafood out of a trailer and a little shack that used to be a snoball stand.

I don't know they name off the top of my head.

Big Fisherman sucks. They are usually undersized and while they taste okay, they aren't as seasoned as they should be. Add in the fact that they usually charge about a dollar more than other seafood places, and they just aren't worth it.

But, having said that, lots of people will get a few pounds at Big Fish and bring them over to the Bulldog across the street and eat them on the patio on nice days. For the convenience factor, they're probably doable.

For taste and price, I'd go with F&J's, Castnet in NOLA East or Perino's Seafood on the Wank.

Don't get them from Dennis' in Metairie. I preordered 100 lbs of live crawfish last year for a party I was having. I called the day before to confirm my order to be sure and they said they did not have any live crawfish to sell. They would jot have called if i disnt call them and they gave me no apology or alternative. I ended up getting crawfish from Deanies in Bucktown for a great price.

You work in the East, right? Try Castnet Seafood out on Haynes Blvd. They might have some.

I've heard nothing but good about this place.

I will always order from Shcafers in Bucktown over Deanies.

Update: ended up going to zydeco on the wank. 4.89 a pound. Nicely seasoned, some big, most were small though but good for the price. Got a fresh batch too which always helps

Eta: cdaniel I tried calling castnet in advance to make sure they had them but no answer

Not sure what happened, but I can assure you this is the exception not the rule. The few times I have had issues with buying live from them(too many dead) they have made things right.

As far as boiled, they are probably the best, with Captain Sids a close second.

Price was probably good, but I always find their quality is a bit below par.

Frankie and Johnnies

Probably the most overrated and expensive place...I find it always a bad idea to eat crawfish at restaurant where you are going to pay an extra $1-2/lb at least.

If you live in the Westbank. Go to Sal's on the corner of Barataira and John Ehret.

What that guy said, exactly. Caveat with I've always found commercially prepared crawfish to be completely underwhelming. Its just not the same. I totally understand why, but its just not the same.

No, I live uptown so it was kinda shitty to have to go to the westbank for crawfish that wasn't $7.99/lb, but it satisfied a craving!

Yeah, Big Fisherman's are ok... but expensive, even in a few months...

just my experience living in NOLA, but growing up in BR... the further west you go, the better the crawfish

NOLA < BR < Acadiana

Agree for the most part.....nothing beats the ones I do at home. I find Dennis' and Captain Sids actually use a fair amount of seasoning, where alot of the others skimp.

Schaefer's on the east bank (across from Deanies), then Capt. Sid's, then Deanies.

Salvo's, Sal's or Perrino's on the west bank.
