This is just absurd. He's gonna leave because of his political views? Believe it or not, there are liberals in Alabama. The Crimson White (Bama's student paper) is very liberal. And PA voted for Bush twice. I lived in Pennsylvania. The middle of the state (where State College is) is very very conservative. LSU's own James Carville said, "Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between."

Best of all time is a stretch, but there is no denying that Alabama isn't one of them. Eight straight coaches have had at least one 10 win season. That includes Bill Curry, Mike DuBose, Fran, and Shula! South Carolina just won 10 games in a year for the second time EVER. Alabama's facilities have had major renovations over the past few years. After spending over $100 million+ since 2005 on BDS no other college stadium is as close to the amenities as a pro stadium right now. Sure there will be down periods, but Alabama always bounces back. It did before Saban and it will after Saban.

Nick wants the appreciation of his peers and superiors more than fans and the media. Nick loves coaching football, but he actually understand that football is a diversion and should be seen by fans as fun and not life and death. If you think the Alabama game is the most important thing on the weekend (as a fan) instead of maybe church or family time Nick thinks you should get a life.

He'd coach Alabama or Penn State for 250,000 a year IF it meant that he was one of the highest paid if not the highest. He loves coaching football.

The OP makes total sense. There is just one problem. I don't know if Penn State can handle Nick's dominating controlling style after what all has happened. I get the impression that the university wants a coach who answers to them. I don't see this being a good fit.

I would be shocked if Saban goes to Penn State. I am convinced that Bama is his last stop.

Bama may have its crazies, but so does Penn State. They are as passionate.

And Penn State won't have as fertile recruiting ground as Bama, so it will be much harder for him to win a national title there.

Facilities are going to almost be a wash as any of the big jobs. Tiger Stadium could still use several of the upgrades BDS has received over the past few years.

Yeah I think it is a combination of that and the fact that those people, quite frankly, are dying off. Everyone thought you had to have a connection to the Bear to coach at Alabama. The fact the University got burned by the few they hired that didn't have that connection (Fran, Price) didn't do that "myth" any favors. I think Saban has proved once and for all you don't need that connection to be successful here.

I'm talking about the physical building. Tiger Stadium has some very run down sections. BDS is as close to an NFL stadium that you will find in college football right now. I'm sure that will change over the next few years though, because expansions are done. It is all about maintaining and upgrading at this point. As far as crowd noise TS will always have an advantage over BDS simply because of stadium design. Sideline seat are pretty far away from the field in BDS and the bowl itself is very shallow. It is a poor design to try and keep noise in.
