Lets say you are looking for a place to hunt deer on. You and maybe a buddy or two. How many acres do you need or want?

I would think 150-200 minimum as long as there are decent properties around you that are managing their herd as well. That being said I currently hunt on <20 acres of woods but there is a large unhunted tract of land behind me if not for that it wouldn't be worth my time and efforts. If you are looking to keep the deer on your property with little influence from the neighbors then you are gonna need closer to 1k acres.

Me, my brother, and Dad could probably hunt on 100 acres, depending on the property of course. That is all we would need.
Of course, we would want upwards of several thousand

300 should be a good start. Can be done on much less. I know a guy that owns 150, killed 13 bucks on it last year between him and his guests. He walks or rides a golf cart everywhere he goes, only is in woods when he is hunting (no joy riding) and is surrounded by high pressure leases.

As much as I can get/afford, but depends on the huntable area. One acre, on the backside of a large non-hunted area, like a preserve, may be all you need. Around heavy hunted areas, you may need alot. Just depends on multiple factors. I have some private property I hunt for a lady that told me to kill all the deer, cause they eat all her flowers and rub their horns on her fruit trees...I've taken 3 10's, an 8, and a wide 7 point off that one acre, with my bow. She gets a Christmas present from me every year...

I'd say 150 acres per man.

I'd love to find 100-150 acres for my grandpa, uncle and a few friends to hunt on. One day

I mainly bird hunt WMAs, but private land for me to duck, woodcock and quail hunt would require at least 1k, with the more the better. My dogs eat up real estate quick...

Depends on the property and surroundings, but 100 acres per hunter is a good rule of thumb.
If it is solid woods and surrounded by woods, you can get by with less.
If it is a lot of fields, and surrounded by neighborhoods, roads, and commerical buildings, you'll probably need more.

The answer completely depends on topogarphy, flora, and fauna.
Due to overlapping seasons if you plan to also duck or dove hunt you may want more acerage.
Or if you have the only mature oak bottom with in 3 square miles of surrounding soybean and corn crops you could get by with as little as 10 acres per guy.
IF you want to manage the land you will need as much as you can afford, especially if your neighbors do not share your management goals.
Assuming good deer populations, a minimum of 50% wooded land of which no more than 50% is pine, and neighbors who don't follow the "if its brown its down" policy my guidelines would be:
20 acres per person if deer hunting bow only
100 acres per person if rifle hunting bow only
150 acres per person if multi species hunting
>150 per person if land is an active cattle ranch
