More crazy talk about Tulane and Big 12

Apparently, Texas is interested in Tulane because of being a top 50 school, AAU status, Louisiana Market, proximity, Superdome,etc.. Texas is currently the only Top 50 school academically left in the Big 12 conference. Their president doesn't want a West Virginia or Louisville, both ranked outside the top 150. Tulane administration is supposedly going to open the checkbook for a new coach(hearing this from my neighbor who works in Tulane admin.) Think it's BS, though. My neighbor said Tulane could be viable in 3-5 years with AQ status and 5X the budget.

Could this mean a return to the LSU/Tulane series?

Tulane was an original member of the SEC... If they became the second AQ school in La, it is reasonable that they would improve.
Still would they ever really sell many seats?

I think they drew crowds of 30-40K when winning under Bowden, who knows. Maybe Texas sees potential with the right funding and BCS status. Location, Facility and academics aren't things that are variable as much as putting together a competitive athletics program.

The staduim would have to be off Campus. Butterfly park behind Audubon Zoo or something near the river. Parking could still happen on campus. City could pitch in as another place to hold HS games in New Orleans.
Also, Texas could play Tulane on Labor Day weekend in New Orleans every other year. They could get a three day weekend in New Orleans.

Tulane will have to be #11-#16 if it gets that far for the Big 12.
#10 - WVU
#11 - Louisville
#12,#13 - BYU/Cincy
#14-#16 - Boise St, Air Force, Tulane, Notre Dame, South Florida
I think it stops at 12 with Cincy. This is assuming that Mizzou makes up its damn mind. Worst case scenario is Mizzou stays and Big12 grabs WVU and Louisville...then what?

If the Big 12 really goes to 16, Tulane would make a whole lot of sense. More so than any other team on that list, imo. And if the Big 12 really does go to 16 teams, or even just back to 12, I think that conference will finally have some serious stability again.

I don't think Tulane can build an on campus stadium bigger than a high school stadium on the foot print of what is left of the old Sugar Bowl stadium area. The neighbors would also freak out as there would be no room for any parking other than what is available for the baseball field.
I've read some posts about their assembling property on the north side of Claiborne Avenue and that isn't going to happen.
Spending more money on football and building a new stadium is a pipe dream for Tulane, if they got in the Big 12 that would be more justification for not building a small on campuis facility. Big time football should fill enough of the Mercedez Benz dome if there is support for Tulane football.

As anyone paid attention to Tulane's average attendance lately? I'm pretty sure the last home game crowd was UNDER 1,000!!!!!! Gimme a break....they shouldn't even be in Conference USA!!!

yes but I didn't think that many people even cared
against a 1-6 Memphis squad.
FWIW, they are interviewing Rich Rodriguez this week.

Texas might also see that propping up another BCS school in Louisiana could work to reduce the dominanat recruiting LSU has had over the last decade.
Get some recurits from LSU to Tulane.
Get some play time in Louisiana and steal some for Tx.

I don't think Tulane would EVER take a recruit away from us.

bullshite.
Tulane's big problem is that the school de-emphasized football so much over the past 30+ years that there is no fanbase left.
Even if they pour all kinds of booster money into the program, you'll still likely see home games with fewer people in attendance than a Catholic League or John Curtis game.

It's not about Tulane taking recruits from us.
It's about Texas and Oklahoma taking recruits from us.
