Is the JJ/Shep zone read really an option?

It looks to me like it's a called give or keep before the play. I was at the game Saturday and the end was coming down several times and JJ kept it. We could have run it outside pretty easily. On the one play where JJ did give, it just looked like Shep knew he was getting the ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't give JJ the option to make that read

though I get the overall point you're making...

isn't the QB supposed to keep when the DE crashes?

JJ keeps the ball 90% of the time! Its in the secret playbook for him to actually pitch it and thats coming out against BAMA.

Damn Pilot beat me!

More like 99% of the time. Dude need to learn to pitch it. Ford could have alot more yards if JJ pitches it to him.

Is JJ a ball hog?

What's new, JJ has done the ball hog thing for three years. Why not now?

I've been saying this for 3 years now. He's good, and breaks long ones on occasion that are spectacular, but a captain (or former captain) should do what's best for the team.

He clearly hogs the ball on option and zone read run plays. We're missing a ton of rushing yardage yards due to this, unless it's a big setup, which I sort of doubt we'd set up 3 years for one game.

Nice thought though.

It's pretty obvious he's hogging the ball.

Watching those zone reads, his read was to give it to the RB at least 3 times and he kept it for little or no gain.

He's like Louis Scott from Celtic Pride.

He's trying to win his starting job back and thinks breaking off a big run or two will help. Hopefully the coaches show him on film that he "missed" the reads and that if he wants more play time, he needs to execute the offense better. JJ cannot be selfish against Bama.

Then again, maybe it's all a set-up. Maybe JJ is playing the selfish role so Bama will adjust their assignment with him in the game and key on the fact he always keeps it. Then he shocks the world with his unselfishness and Ford or Shep take it to the house!

He doesn't understand how to run the option correctly, this is clear.

I actually made this comment during the game that JJ is like a basketball player being a ball hog.

Wonder what Ford, Blue, and McGee is thinking about JJ taking 14 runs away from them..

FWIW, If JJ continues to run 14 times per game, He won't make the end of the season,

And it's not like it's a new problem.

Not on that play. Shep assigned to run wide.

BINGO!
It's obvious he's a ball hog and wants the big play to win his job back. The play he made a TD on is a prime example. He could've pitched to Ford, but he tucked it and tried one of his famous "stretch the ball" play. Well, it could've been a fumble, and when he got up Ford tried to congratulate him, but he was in his "It's all about me" moment.
