I always like to build up teams on our schedule because, hey, it helps us. It seems like Oregon's absolute demolition of Nevada was completely downplayed this past weekend. They got no bump from it, and given that Oregon's only loss was basically a road loss to a Top 3 team, it seems to me that Oregon should be thought of much more highly than they currently are.

Before I have to start hearing about the fact that it was "only" Nevada, go back and see what that team did last year. Now, I know they lost Colin Kaepernick, their all-everything QB, but still, they were an impressive team last year. They beat media darling Boise State, and crushed Cal on the road. They pretty much demolished every team they played except for a road loss at Hawai'i (understandable) and a tight game at Fresno (which has to be the most inconsistent team I've ever seen). They beat BYU on the road and Boston College in their bowl game. They finished the season just outside the Top 10. That is a well-coached team at Nevada. And Oregon beat them by 7 touchdowns.

Teams like Oregon usually get exposed at the end of the yr. They got exposed right out of the gate and now the pollsters have written them off.

Kind of a big deal though.

Agreed. My point was that this wasn't a win over Portland State or even Idaho. Nevada is a good, well-coached team.

This.

LSU is getting 17 first place votes and is ranked #3, only a few points behind Alabama. Alabama has 10 first place votes, by the way (AP poll).

LSU is getting plenty of respect. Oregon is done and LSU put the nail in the coffin, just like we did to Virginia Tech in 2007. IF Oregon wins out, they will get respect and we will get even more. It works out perfectly for LSU.

Oregon will absolutely WAX good teams.
There is NO WAY LSU beats that same Nevada team by more than 3/4 touchdowns.
But Oregon gets waxed by GREAT teams like LSU.
Oregon is easily the "sexiest" program since USC.
But like USC, that doesn't translate to "best" team.
Oregon goes 10-2, leads in all offensive statistics and by season's end they will be back telling us they are better than us.
You know the drill.
To LSU, it's just another in a long line of skins on the wall.

Kaepernick is big but they shouldn't be losing by that many TD.

Nevada is going to be pretty bad this year. They lost a helluva lot of talent.

If Oregon keeps winning they will go back up and that win will be HUGE for us a la Va Tech in 2007, should we get into an end of the year "who should go" debate.

Most likely. It will all come down to their big Nov. 12 matchup at Stanford.

exactly

let them have their sexy stats and offensive fireworks, and we'll keep collecting the crystal footballs.

Take this only for its limited value but I heard an Oregon caller on one of the XM stations yesterday, and he was pleased with how Oregon rebounded but he was quick to point out that it was not the same Nevada team. I don't know what else they lost, but the caller and the host at least made it sound like Nevada lost more than the the excellent QB.

With that said, I think Oregon is a very good team that ran into an excellent and extremely physical LSU team, AND Oregon lost the turnover battle. A team that is -3 to this LSU team in the turnover column is likely not only to lose but also catch a whuppin.

Here's another "What If" scenario. Assume Bama goes unbeaten and loses in the SEC title game to South Carolina, who has 2 losses. Assume Oklahoma is unbeaten Big 12 champ. Assume LSU's only loss is to Bama on the road in overtime. Assume that no other BCS conference team is unbeaten and neither is Boise, and the only one with less than two losses is Pac 12 champ Oregon. So, it's between LSU (11-1, but not SEC champs) and Oregon (12-1, Pac 12 champs). Does LSU automatically go given our win over Oregon even though our loss was much later in the season?

However, Nevada had over 500 yards of offense against Oregon.

In that "What if" scenario - I think LSU gets the nod.

I would say no way LSU deserves to go. If you aren't good enough to even play in your conference championship game, you shouldn't be able to play for a nc.

LSU would have beaten Oregon, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Miss. State and West Virigina. I would assume that LSU would be way ahead of Oregon in the computer component, so it would come down to where we're ranked in the Harris and Coaches polls.
