I wish the answer would be leaning more towards increasing the season by two games.

This is where it's ultimately going and season rankings will not matter as much. There will be playoffs and the SEC champ will be an automatic qualifier.

If LSU doesn't go to UF in 06 who knows who plays OSU in Tempe

I get you as a fan "liking" that it can be a good game and you have memories but fricking Ole Miss plays Vandy every fricking year and still can't get to Atlanta, while LSU has to play generally the best team in the east every year

totally unfair

Your thread title is misleading as frick

And I would love to discontinue the annual game with the Gators.

Why?

why not? it would be the easiest solution. the pac 12 already plays 9 conference games. it's not like it's unheard of.

I HATE Florida more than anything in this world, and that's why I enjoy having that game every year, nothing better than bragging rights! I agree that it is unfair as hell since the MS teams play crappy teams from the East, but I'm only speaking as an irrational fan.

Let me ponder this question, if the 14th team ends up being a west team, and they move Bama or Auburn to the East, wouldn't you want THAT game to be your permanent East opponent?

If adding TA&M is going to "disrupt" the SEC then I'd prefer they not come. I love out game with UF.

The SEC need not repeat the mistakes of the former Big-12 and lose its rivalries.

Osu and michigan is totally diff my friend. Sec was already at 12 teams. So its easier for them to keep it even being in a diff divisions. And im assuming other teams will have a perma opponent until they expand again.

There shouldn't be ANY permanent opponents from the Eastern division. Play your divisional rivals every year and rotate on and off through the East each season and vice versa.

Why would you want to get rid of this opponent? These type of games are what make the SEC.

That '97 game solidified me as a Tiger fan and there have been some good games since but all that has developed is mutual respect. Nothing is there and LSU and Florida would do better to move on and hope to meet in final if needed.

So which team are we adding to the SEC and when is it happening? Personally I love the Florida game. Number one that is pretty much THE school, not matter how shitty a coach they have they would always have excellent players. It's just their M.O.

For us, I think LSU gained skilled in leaps and bounds thanks to Florida being our permanent opponent. We would always try to get recruit specific players to destroy florida and if it works on Florida, it'll work on anybody.

With the way we are battling other teams week in and week out. It's just help us be prepare and help the players prepare for the pros where they would play longer games in even more unforgiving conditions.

Keep Florida.

I think all non-division games should be rotated. It is the only fair way to to it. Permanent cupcake (relative) vs permanent powerhouse is an advantage or a disadvantage depending on who you happen to be paired with.

It's not fair we play Florida every year and Alabama and AU don't. Then when bama plays them and beats them in an off year they say "Florida in no sweat, we always beat them".

We used to play Texas A&M first game every year. They always gave us fits and I remember saying to myself that we need to start with a cupcake team.

It wouldn't surprise me if they do away with permanent opponents. ETA: I mean permanent opponets in the other division obviously.

There will always be permanent opponents. It was in the original deal -- the charter if you will - that split the conference. Auburn v. Georgia and Tennessee v. Alabama are the reasons we have the permanent opponent from the other division. LSU - UF came about because they were the next two programs with the highest winning percentage after those previous 4. Historically, those 6 teams have dominated the SEC. The SEC, no matter how large it gets will not do away with these match- ups. LSU - UF is one of the three marquee match-ups in the league now.
