Empty net question...when?

Hockey does it, why do the Frenchies have a goalie still in?
Yes, I'm ignorant.

You won't see it unless France gets a corner and they might bring her up.
You can't sub as fluidly in soccer as hockey, so she's pretty much got to stay in. She can come up and help on the attack, but that's almost giving away another goal though.

Hockey goal is a lot smaller than a soccer goal

Best example. American legend and Tottenham man, Brad Friedel.
The best thing about it is that Charlton came right back and scored to win. The beautiful game, indeed.

Had they not let in the third goal, it would have happened with like 5 minutes left if I had to guess.

Only on a corner or free kick. Goal is never left empty due to a sub. Ever.

Not unless there was a corner.
This is why

Golfer is a good poster on other boards. Some people don't understand the nuances of a game, it isn't a big deal.

I dunno, I guess it just doesn't make sense. You're down, time is running out...you need another body.

People can hit that net from 70+ yards, it's just too easy to get scored on with out the keeper

Same can easily be said for hockey...keep in mind, you're down two. There's 2 minutes left. You need to score quick or you are going to lose.
I know ya'll hate football references, but its almost like a team being down 14 with 2 minutes left and choosing to run the ball on 1st and 10.

In hockey, you can sub freely. In soccer, you can't. Also, even Solo could score on an empty net from 80+ yards.
ETA: The subbing allows it in hockey. Once the down team loses possession, the goalie comes back in. Can't do that in soccer.

Yes, everyone keeps telling me that the other team can score. Well of course, but it isn't like a team is going to do this with 20 minutes left in the match.

Can a goalie not kick a ball?
And stop telling me the other team can score, I know this...

It's a good way to lose 4-1.
The average male professional, would hit a 70-80 yard shot with no problem.
Plus the tactical advantage of being up 11-10 compared to 6-5 is considerably less.
Hockey is about strength. Soccer is about space.

You're going home if you don't win. Why not try at all costs?

Then why was the game vs. Brazil of epic proportions because the US played down a person?

Another thing: A hockey rink is much smaller than a soccer pitch. A player can't get back quick enough. There is 0% of ever winning the match if you play empty net, unless you leave the net empty on a set piece.
