Bingo, coming out of your group tied , goal differential is huge
Well in today's example, you needed to win.

If you haven't figured it out yet, then you never will.

I understand the reasoning. But to think that this is some dumbshit question...

Nah it's not really stupid. The why don't they make the goals bigger or why can't they use their hands questions are the worst.

Hockey does it, why do the Frenchies have a goalie still in?
Yes, I'm ignorant.
You have to have a goalie at all times.

Why are there goalies?
Why doesn't the clock stop?
Why don't people score?

I didn't really clarify the OP, but I was talking more about just moving the goalie up.

Maybe they should do this in soccer...
No one will ever agree with me, but I definitely wish soccer had the count down method with clock stopage like other sports.

I like the "Why don't the make the pitch smaller? " . . "It'd get more people interested in soccer"

Or "why don't they get rid of offside?

Why don't they have European games at night in the US?
Yes, I've really heard this one. And yes, the guy was serious.

Golfer:
I get your question as someone who doesn't watch a lot of soccer. You should look back at Joey Barton's answer in pg3 as that's the clear reason you're looking for.
It's NOT the risk of giving up a goal that makes it a low percentage play.
It's that the 1 extra man advantage isn't going to keep you from losing possession and then watch the other side just be able to boot the ball 80 yrds and waste tons of time even if they don't score.
Instead, GK DO come way forward in desperate situations so they quickly return the ball toward the attack.
They, of course, come all the way forward on set pieces often and then sprint like crazy to get back.

Later in games and trailing, goalies will USUALLY play as far up as the back line usually plays, if not farther, pushing everyone else forward.
Hope that helps.

People can hit that net from 70+ yards, it's just too easy to get scored on with out the keeper
This.
An extra player just doesn't help all that much, 11 instead of 10 isn't that big a difference. You'd give up a goal nearly every time the defenders pick up the ball (that is, 95% of the time) and send it toward your net.
The indoor soccer field is much smaller and you see this tactic much more often as a result. Even if the keeper can't get back in time someone else can get in the way.
Actually, I think indoor soccer is closer to hockey than it is to outdoor soccer. The major difference is that the keeper is much more influential in indoor than in hockey. Other than that a lot is the same.

Venezuela was trailing 3-1 but pulled one back in the 89th via Nicolas Fedor. Goalkeeper Renny Vicente Vega then rushed to the other end in the game’s last play and met a corner with an angled header to set up Perozo’s equalizer two minutes into stoppage time.
